The Boston College Eagles returned to their non-conference schedule after their exciting win last Saturday over then #1 Duke. The Columbia Lions out of the Ivy league was the opposition on this night.  Would there be a let down after last weekend’s win?.

The Lions came to Conte with an eight-game losing streak in tow,  while Boston College was trying to prove that beating Duke was not just one of those days. The building did not have the same buzz, and it was understandable. After all, this was a game they were supposed to win.
Backed by all five starters in double figures, the Eagles made it three in a row 81-66 over Columbia. The final score was not an indication of how difficult this game was at times. The Eagles deadly trio was at it once again with Jerome Robinson’s 21 points, including a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. For Robinson, it was his third straight 20-point game. Jordan Chatman had 20 points on 8-16 shooting and Ky Bowman, who celebrated being named ACC Player of the Week by securing his second straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Columbia was led by the smallest player on the court, 5-11 Sophomore guard Mike Smith with 25 points (10-22 shooting), and Quinton Adlesh with 11.
The Eagles scored the first five points of the night and gave the home crowd the thought this might be an easy night. However, midway through the first, an 8-0 run by the Lions gave them a double-digit lead 21 to 10. BC quickly got things under control by going on a 9-0 run of their own. Three-point baskets by Bowman, Steffon Mitchell (10 points, 8 rebounds), and Robinson tied the game at 23 all with 8:29 left in the half.
Boston College would grab their first double-digit lead of the night on a three-point make from Chatman, 43-33 with 1:19 left before halftime. The Eagles would settle for an eight-point lead at the break of 43 to 35.

If there was a stat that caught BC Head Coach Jim Christian’s attention was zero offensive rebounds in the first half. After the game, he admitted it was addressed. In the second half, the Eagles finally went to work. A 14-2 run to begin the second twenty minutes put the game away for the home team. It put the Eagles up by 14 at 57-43 with 15:50 left in the game. A Robinson three-ball pushed the lead to twenty at 66-46 with 12: 55 to go.
Boston College would maintain the double-digit lead for the rest of the game. Final score from BC Eagles 81 Columbia 66.
With the win, BC improves to 8-3, while the Lions losing streak grows to ten and their record drops to 1-10.
After the game, Christian was asked about the lack of points from his bench. He said he was concerned about it, but went on to say his main players have to play and score. “It’s just who we are”.
For BC, the early season schedule continues on Sunday when the Eagles take on Central Connecticut State.
