We now know who will be playing for the ACC conference championship in early December.  The Clemson Tigers, who defeated Florida State this past weekend, and the Miami Hurricanes, who put a beating on Notre Dame this past Saturday, will meet in Charlotte North Carolina to crown this year’s champion.

The teams already bowl eligible for the conference are Clemson, Miami, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina State. Two more made the list this weekend at Wake Forest and Louisville.  Boston College, with a win this Saturday night at Fenway Park vs Connecticut can also make the grade. So too can Georgia Tech with a win on the road at Duke.

Led by the defending champs, the Clemson Tigers, the league has done a very good job of winning games against teams with a .500 or better record. The Tigers have seven such wins, the conference has 32. In fact, no other top 10 teams have played more games vs .500 or better teams than Clemson. To be the best you have to play the best and Clemson does just that.

On Saturday vs Boston College, North Carolina State defensive lineman Bradley Chubb became the all-time leader in sacks in school history when he recorded 2.5 sacks in the Wolfpack win over the Eagles. He now has 26.5 for his career, and could very well end up as a first-round pick when the NFL Draft takes place next spring. Chubb is third in the the country in tackles for loss averaging 2.1 per game.

Louisville quarterback Lamer Jackson is having another great season for the Cardinal. He leads the nation in total offense averaging 426.3 yards per game, points responsible for (194 ), ranks 14th among all players in rushing at (114.3). He is ahead of his pace of a year ago in the conference in total offense (393.4) yards per game and is more than 47 yards ahead of his nearest competitor Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield who stands at 366.1 per game.

Georgia Tech’s win this past weekend at home over Virginia Tech was their eighth straight win at home, it is the sixth longest such streak in the country.  They boast a tandem of running backs that are thriving in Head Coach Paul Johnson’s offense. Junior, TaQuon Marshall is averaging 108.8 yards a game and Sophomore KirVonte Jenson at 105.5 a contest are getting it done on the ground for the Yellow Jackets. Marshall leads the conference in scoring (TDs) having hit paydirt 14 times already this season. All of his scores have been on the ground. As you might have guessed he is also number one in scoring.

Speaking of running backs, Boston College Freshman A.J. Dillon went over a thousand yards in the Eagles loss to North Carolina State on Senior Day last Saturday. It was also the second time this year that Dillon went over 200 yards on the ground, with the other time back in October on the road vs Louisville. With injuries at the quarterback position possibility being a problem down the stretch for the Eagles Dillon may see his number get called a lot over the last two games of the season if BC is to get to six wins and a bowl game.
