Boston College Preseason Practice Report No. 17

Third scrimmage of the preseason finishes Friday morning

CHESTNUT HILLMass. – The Boston College football team held its third scrimmage of preseason camp Friday morning inside Alumni Stadium. The scrimmage was originally scheduled for Friday evening at 6 p.m., but due to the threat of inclement weather, the Eagles hit the field bright and early Friday morning at 7 a.m.

The first team offense was able to run 69 plays during Friday’s scrimmage as both the offense and defense made their fair share of plays Friday. Overall, head coach Steve Addazio was happy with the output, but hoping to clean up the penalties moving forward.

“I thought we were sloppy on offense early,” said Addazio. “After halftime, we had a great second half. Too many penalties, too many dropped balls today. We haven’t had that all camp. That showed up a little bit today.”

The schedule change was an added curveball for the players as the plans to move the scrimmage to Friday morning were set Thursday evening.

“We were supposed to go out tonight, but we rousted them out with a 7 a.m. on the field and it just seemed like we didn’t start great,” said Addazio. “But I thought we rallied back. It was good. We got a lot done.”

With the 2017 season-opener just two weeks away, the Eagles have one more week of preseason camp before game week prep begins for the opener at NIU.

Scrimmage Notes: After the defense forced a three-and-out to start the scrimmage, the offense responded with a long touchdown drive as redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Brown found junior Jon Hilliman for a 21-yard touchdown pass. Brown had a key 3rd and 11 completion on the drive to sophomore tight end Korab Idrizi and found junior tight end Tommy Sweeney for a first down over the middle as well. Hilliman also had a 15-yard run on the drive and true freshman running back AJ Dillon rumbled for two 10-plus yard runs on the drive … Hilliman and Dillon both stood out during the scrimmage as both backs showed breakaway speed and punished defenders at the end of the run … senior cornerback Kamrin Moore had an interception returned for a touchdown while junior strong safety Will Harris also had an interception during the scrimmage … after halftime, the offense was in full gear as Hilliman rumbled in for a short touchdown after the drive began in the red zone … true freshman quarterback EJ Perry hit redshirt freshman wide receiver Kobay White for a 10-yard touchdown reception … redshirt freshman defensive back Mike Palmer had one of the plays of the day showing terrific range to go up and pick off a pass … true freshman Paul Theobald had an interception as well for the defense … Brown found junior wide receiver Michael Walker for a 60-yard touchdown reception as the Florida native showed tremendous speed to take the pass to the house … Colton LichtenbergMike Knoll and Max Schulze-Geisthovel were perfect kicking field goals on the day, going a combined 8-for-8 … Lichtenberg was 4-for-4 with a long of 45 yards.
