Boston College Preseason Practice Report No. 16

Third scrimmage on tap for Friday

CHESTNUT HILLMass. – The Boston College football team inches closer to the start of the 2017 season as the Eagles completed their 16th practice of preseason camp Thursday. The Eagles had one final workout prior to Friday’s scrimmage inside Alumni Stadium.

Boston College head coach Steve Addazio spoke to the media following Thursday’s practice and noted the amount of plays for this week’s scrimmage will differ from last week.

“Not as many reps as we took last week,” Addazio said. “Get rid of a lot of the practice-y stuff and get more into what we were doing in the red zone here at the end. Get us in situations where we move it a little bit, but less volume for the ones probably at this point because I think when you get really fatigued when you get sloppy, you are more prone to injury because you’re not as sharp, you’re not as twitchy. That’s the mix that we’re all concerned about right now. Getting enough work done, but in the compromised situation that we’re in physically right now at this point in camp, not being foolish.”

With just one final week of preseason camp prior to game week against NIU, the quarterback competition is still progressing with Darius Wade and Anthony Brown continuing to battle for the top spot.

Addazio was asked following practice if he is worried about a timeline to reach a decision as to who will start under center.

“No, I’m not worried about it because it’s not an impact for us right now,” Addazio said. “If I thought that was impacting us right now, maybe I’d be antsier about it, but I’m not. We are just going about our business. That’s got a lot to do with the fact that both guys are making plays. If someone wasn’t making plays, that might be a little different scenario here but it’s not the case right now.”

With the dog days of preseason camp in full effect, the BC head coach was pleased with how the Eagles responded after yesterday’s practice.

“I thought we culminated in a really poor day yesterday, to me,” Addazio said. “And we challenged them. I thought we came out today and we’re much crisper. Here we are a whole day later and all of a sudden, we are crisper. That speaks to the fact that it’s a mental game and you got to bring it every day. And if you don’t, it will strangle you. That’s part of that learning lesson. I was pretty pleased today with the crispness of everything considering yesterday guys were on the ground, slow motion, flopping around, feeling sorry for themselves. I wanted to see that today and I saw that so I’m actually pretty pleased about that right now.”

Practice Notes: NFL scouts from seven NFL teams attended Thursday’s practice. The Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers were represented Thursday … Friday’s Boston College Football Fan Day has been canceled due to the impending weather in the forecast for tomorrow. The event will not be rescheduled.
