Here is hoping everyone had a great Fourth of July Holiday and that you are all safe. Here is what is going on in the New York Penn League this past week. It is still early on in the season, but things are beginning to make a bit of sense as the teams continue to push on.

There have been 174 games played so far, with 13 combined shutouts pitched. However, only one complete game has been recorded so far, that by Brooklyn Cyclones Jose Carlos Medina. He is also second in innings pitched with 16.2 and is tied for the league lead with two other pitchers in lowest BB-IBB/9 IP ratio at zero. It does make the point that pitch count and innings pitch really do matter in this league.

Joshua Lopez of State College is leading the NY-Penn League in hitting with a .500 average. He also is number one in on-base percentage at .575. He also leads in total bases with 29, and in slugging .853 and is second in hits with 17, and in runs scored with 11.

James Teague has been a tough man to face when coming out of the bullpen for the Aberdeen IronBirds this season. Teague leads in both lowest batting average at .063 (1-16), highest SO/9 IP ratio at 19.80 (11 K’s in 5.0 innings). He is second in the fewest baserunners/9IP ratio at 5.40 (three in five innings).

Oscar Rosado, of the Tri-City pitching staff, has a couple of categories he pretty good in. One is the fewest baserunners/9IP ratio (3.60 4- 10.0 IP), and lowest batting average at .063 (2-32), both of these stats come from his starts this season.

State College is the best hitting team in the league at .268, while the best pitching staff at the moment is West Virginia with a 1.85 ERA. Both teams hail from the Pinckney Division and the two teams are separated by one game in the standings right now with State College in the lead.
