As the Boston College Eagles continue to spend the summer getting ready for the 2017 football season, the program keeps adding quality opponents to their overall schedule. It was just announced the Eagles will be bringing another Big-10 Team to Chesnutt Hill, Michigan State has agreed to a two-game series with Boston College with the Spartans coming to Boston on September 21, 2024. BC will be making the return visit to Michigan State on September 20, 2025.
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the two schools, with BC leading the all-time series 4-1-1. The last time the two programs met was in a bowl game, the 2007 Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, Florida. It was a game that was won by the Eagles 24-21. It will also mark the fourth Big-10 teams that have committed to playing the Eagles in the coming years.
Boston College has home and home games line up with Purdue in 2018, 2020, four with Rutgers starting in 2019, then in 2022, 2026, 2027, as well as a set of games with The Ohio State Buckeyes in 2026, 2027. Boston College is putting together a complete non-conference lineup that is sure to bring fans out to the stadium to see how the Eagles fare against a solid power five league like the Big-10.
It does not hurt when you are lining up programs that have been part of the College Football Playoff, something that Boston College would someday like to be a part of. The only way to find out if you are making strides in that area is to play schools that have been there and stack yourself against them. This is something that BC is doing with their aggressive scheduling both in and out of conference.
It also is a help in the recruiting process as well. It does not hurt to have a demanding schedule in your back pocket when you go to visit a recruit in his home. It can be a good selling point to make especially with kids that might be on the fence about your school and program.
