CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Four members of the Boston College football team were named to the Athlon Sports All-ACC teams today. Senior defensive end Harold Landry was named to the first team while junior tight end Tommy Sweeney and senior offensive lineman Jon Baker collected third team honors. Senior linebacker Connor Strachan rounded out the accolades with fourth team honors.

Landry finished 2016 as the nation’s leader in sacks (16.5) and forced fumbles (7) on his way to earning All-America accolades from the Associated Press and Walter Camp Football Foundation. The North Carolina native was also fifth in the nation and second in the ACC with 22.0 tackles-for-loss. Landry set the Boston College single-season record with 16.5 sacks a year ago.

Sweeney burst onto the scene as one of the ACC’s most underrated tight ends in 2016. The New Jersey product started all 13 games and finished third on the team with 353 receiving yards on 26 receptions. Sweeney caught three receiving touchdowns, including the game-winning scores in road wins at NC State and at Wake Forest.

Baker, who was recently named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List, has started all 25 games he has played in over the previous two seasons at center for the Eagles. The Massachusetts native headlines a veteran offensive line for BC in 2017 that features the return of four starters up front.

Strachan earned All-ACC honorable mention honors a season ago as he led the Eagles with 80 tackles on the season. The middle linebacker was a key component of one of the nation’s best defenses. He helped lead a BC defense that ranked on eight top-10 lists nationally, including ninth in total defense (314.2 yards/game), second in sacks (3.62 sacks/game) and 10th in turnovers gained (27) in 2016.

Boston College opens the 2017 season at Northern Illinois on Friday, September 1 on CBS Sports Network. The Eagles open the 2017 home schedule Saturday, September 9 vs. Wake Forest at Alumni Stadium. Season tickets are now on sale for the upcoming season that features home games against Notre Dame, Florida State, and Virginia Tech. To purchase tickets, visit BCEagles.com.
