The Tampa Bay Rays are heading back to the Fall Classic. In front of a raucous home crowd at Tropicana Field on Monday night, October 19, 2026, the Rays secured a decisive 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. With the win, Tampa Bay clinched a 4-2 series victory, eliminating Cleveland and punching their ticket to the World Series for the third time in franchise history (2008, 2020, and 2026).
Now, manager Kevin Cash’s squad sits four wins away from capturing the first World Series title in franchise history. The little market team that keeps finding a way to win now plays for its first World Series.
Game-Breaking Power: Caminero and Díaz Ignite Tropicana Field
Tampa Bay’s offense set the tempo early and delivered timely long-ball power to keep the Guardians at bay throughout the night. Third baseman Junior Caminero delivered the night’s defining performance, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a soaring home run, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. Caminero’s mid-game blast provided the instant spark that blew the game open for Tampa Bay.
First baseman Yandy Díaz added crucial run support, finishing 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Outfielder Richie Palacios was equally vital to the run production, turning in a multi-hit effort by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Outfielder Jonny DeLuca added an RBI, while the Rays’ disciplined plate approach wore down Cleveland’s pitching staff. Shortstop Taylor Walls demonstrated elite patience, drawing three walks and scoring a run despite taking only one official at-bat. Additional runs were scored by Victor Mesa Jr., Chandler Simpson, and Liam Hicks, giving Tampa Bay a well-rounded offensive attack.
Tampa Bay Offense Box Score Summary
- Junior Caminero: 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs, 2 R, BB

Pitching Masterclass: Freddy Peralta Sets the Tone
On the mound, starting pitcher Freddy Peralta delivered a composure-filled outing under high postseason stakes. Peralta threw 84 pitches over 5.1 innings of work, allowing just five hits and one earned run while striking out three batters and walking three to earn the win.
Following Peralta’s exit, Tampa Bay’s bullpen executed late-inning shutdown sequences:
Reliever Performances
- Cam Booser: Provided 1.2 innings of scoreless, hitless relief.
- Tyler Wells: Worked 0.2 innings to bridge the middle frames.
- Ian Seymour: Made a brief relief appearance.
- Kevin Kelly: Entered in a high-leverage moment, recording a strikeout on just three pitches in 0.1 innings.
- Bryan Baker: Slammed the door in the ninth inning, needing only nine pitches to record a scoreless frame and lock down the pennant win.
Guardians Fall Short in Game 6
For Stephen Vogt’s Cleveland Guardians, Game 6 proved to be an uphill battle from the opening frames. Outfielder Chase DeLauter provided punch at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while first baseman Nathaniel Lowe was efficient, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Catcher Patrick Bailey and Angel Martinez each chipped in with an RBI, but Cleveland’s star third baseman José Ramírez was kept in check, going 0-for-4 with a walk. Outfielders Steven Kwan and Jo Adell, along with shortstop Brayan Rocchio, were limited to one hit apiece.
Cleveland utilized an opener strategy that struggled to contain Tampa Bay’s lineup. Shawn Armstrong pitched the first inning, giving up one earned run. Joey Cantillo yielded another run over 1.2 innings, while Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis were hit hard in relief, each surrendering two earned runs. Daniel Espino, Matt Festa, Tim Herrin, and Erik Sabrowski also made relief appearances for the Guardians in the loss.

On to the Fall Classic: The Pursuit of Franchise History
By taking Game 6, the Tampa Bay Rays secure their third American League pennant in franchise history, joining the 2008 and 2020 squads. Having fallen short in both previous World Series appearances, Tampa Bay now enters the 2026 Fall Classic driven to claim the organization’s first World Series trophy.
With maximum momentum heading into the championship series, the Rays prepare for an intriguing World Series matchup against the National League champion Milwaukee Brewers. If Caminero, Díaz, and Peralta maintain their October form, Tampa Bay has all the tools needed to complete their championship mission.
