The 2026 NFL season continues delivering surprises, upsets, and unexpected contenders as teams prepare for Week 8. Meanwhile, several preseason Super Bowl favorites have struggled to establish consistency through their first seven games. The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs both suffered their first losses during Week 7. However, the Minnesota Vikings remain undefeated after surviving another difficult matchup. Furthermore, the Seattle Seahawks made a statement by defeating Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also delivered an impressive performance following Baker Mayfield’s return. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles continue searching for answers following another disappointing loss. These rankings consider overall performance, recent results, roster strength, and each team’s chances of sustained success. Unlike the official standings, power rankings reflect team strength rather than win-loss records alone. Here are my Week 8 NFL power rankings for all 32 teams, following the October 26 Monday night game.

The Elite Contenders: Rankings 1–8
1\. San Francisco 49ers (6-1)
San Francisco remains atop the rankings despite losing 29-20 against the Atlanta Falcons. Brock Purdy and the offense struggled to overcome mistakes, while the defense surrendered several important plays. Nevertheless, the 49ers have demonstrated greater consistency than most NFC contenders. However, their recent turnover problems deserve attention heading into their next matchup.
2\. Minnesota Vikings (6-0)
Minnesota remains the NFL’s only undefeated team after defeating Indianapolis 16-10. The Vikings continue relying on their defense while quarterback Kyler Murray develops chemistry with his new teammates. However, their offense must become more consistent against stronger opponents. Nevertheless, Minnesota has demonstrated an impressive ability to win close games.
3\. Buffalo Bills (5-1)
Buffalo enjoyed its bye week following another strong start to the season. Josh Allen continues providing the Bills with one of football’s most dangerous offensive weapons. Furthermore, the addition of D.J. Moore gives Buffalo another explosive receiving option. The Bills remain serious contenders for the AFC championship.
4\. Kansas City Chiefs (5-1)
Kansas City suffered its first defeat after Seattle dominated the Chiefs 20-3. Patrick Mahomes struggled to generate offensive momentum against Seattle’s aggressive defense. However, Kenneth Walker III has significantly improved Kansas City’s rushing attack this season. The Chiefs must respond quickly before concerns surrounding their offense intensify.
5\. Detroit Lions (4-2)
Detroit earned an important 20-17 victory against Green Bay. The Lions continue demonstrating their ability to win physical divisional matchups. Furthermore, their offensive balance gives opposing defenses several challenges. Detroit remains among the NFC’s strongest championship contenders.
6\. Denver Broncos (5-2)
Denver defeated Arizona 30-16 and continued strengthening its position among AFC contenders. The Broncos have developed a competitive identity through disciplined football and defensive pressure. However, their upcoming matchup against Kansas City presents another important test. A victory over the Chiefs could significantly improve Denver’s standing.
7\. Seattle Seahawks (4-3)
Seattle delivered one of Week 7’s biggest statements by defeating Kansas City 20-3. The Seahawks controlled the matchup defensively and prevented Mahomes from finding his rhythm. Furthermore, Seattle demonstrated the physicality necessary to compete against championship contenders. However, consistency remains essential after three losses this season.
8\. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)
Jacksonville entered its bye week following a promising opening stretch. The Jaguars have demonstrated defensive improvement and greater overall competitiveness. However, their previous loss against Houston exposed areas requiring attention. Trevor Lawrence must continue providing steady quarterback play as Jacksonville pursues the AFC South title.
Playoff Contenders: Rankings 9–16
9\. Chicago Bears (5-2)
Chicago continued its impressive progress with a 30-24 victory over New England. The Bears demonstrated offensive resilience and made enough defensive plays to secure another important victory. Furthermore, Chicago continues building confidence against competitive opponents. However, the Bears must improve their consistency before entering serious championship conversations.
10\. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2)
Cincinnati delivered one of Week 7’s most impressive performances with a 35-13 victory over Baltimore. Joe Burrow dominated the second half, throwing four touchdown passes after halftime. Furthermore, the Bengals demonstrated their offensive potential against a division rival. Cincinnati could become a dangerous playoff opponent if its defense maintains this level.
11\. New England Patriots (4-3)
New England suffered a disappointing 30-24 defeat against Chicago on Thursday night. However, the Patriots remain competitive under head coach Mike Vrabel. Drake Maye continues developing into an important offensive leader. Nevertheless, New England must finish close games more effectively to challenge Buffalo.
12\. Los Angeles Rams (3-4)
Los Angeles defeated Las Vegas 35-21 behind an impressive offensive performance. Matthew Stafford threw three touchdown passes and continued demonstrating his veteran leadership. Furthermore, Kyren Williams and Blake Corum provided valuable support through the rushing attack. However, the Rams must eliminate their inconsistency before challenging the NFC’s strongest teams.
13\. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
Pittsburgh earned a hard-fought 16-10 victory over New Orleans. The Steelers relied on their defense to survive another difficult offensive performance. However, their inability to consistently generate touchdowns remains concerning. Pittsburgh must improve offensively to compete against the AFC’s strongest contenders.
14\. Dallas Cowboys (3-4)
Dallas delivered an impressive 38-21 victory over Philadelphia on Monday Night Football. Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes while helping the Cowboys control their division rival. Furthermore, Dallas demonstrated the offensive firepower necessary to challenge stronger opponents. However, defensive inconsistency continues limiting the team’s overall potential.
15\. Green Bay Packers (4-3)
Green Bay suffered a disappointing 20-17 defeat against Detroit. Jordan Love and the offense struggled to produce enough points against a physical division opponent. Furthermore, turnovers and offensive line concerns continue creating problems. The Packers remain dangerous, but their margin for error continues shrinking.
16\. Cleveland Browns (5-2)
Cleveland escaped Tennessee with a 27-24 victory. The Browns continue showing improvement under head coach Todd Monken. However, their close victory against Tennessee demonstrated that offensive consistency remains a concern. Cleveland must develop greater balance before challenging the AFC’s elite teams.
The Middle of the Pack: Rankings 17–24
17\. New York Giants (4-2-1)
New York earned an impressive 27-21 road victory over Houston. The Giants continue surprising opponents under head coach John Harbaugh. Furthermore, their defense has delivered important plays during critical situations. However, the Giants must establish greater offensive consistency to sustain their early success.
18\. Baltimore Ravens (4-3)
Baltimore suffered a disappointing 35-13 defeat against Cincinnati. Lamar Jackson’s ankle injury continues creating uncertainty surrounding the Ravens’ offense. Furthermore, Baltimore’s defense struggled against Joe Burrow during the second half. The Ravens remain talented, but their recent performance raises serious concerns.
19\. Atlanta Falcons (3-4)
Atlanta delivered one of Week 7’s biggest upsets with a 29-20 victory over San Francisco. The Falcons demonstrated offensive balance while taking advantage of San Francisco’s mistakes. Furthermore, defeating a previously undefeated opponent should provide considerable confidence. However, Atlanta must demonstrate consistency before moving significantly higher.
20\. Washington Commanders (1-4-1)
Washington continues searching for greater consistency following a challenging opening stretch. The Commanders possess enough offensive talent to threaten stronger opponents. However, injuries and defensive concerns have complicated their season. Washington must improve its execution before falling further behind in the NFC playoff race.
21\. Houston Texans (2-5)
Houston suffered a disappointing 27-21 defeat against the New York Giants. The Texans surrendered too many important plays against an opponent experiencing quarterback uncertainty. Furthermore, their defense has struggled to match last season’s performance. Houston must improve quickly to overcome its difficult start.
22\. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-5)
Tampa Bay delivered a dominant 43-13 victory over Carolina. Baker Mayfield returned from his thumb injury and provided an immediate offensive spark. Furthermore, the Buccaneers demonstrated improved execution after several frustrating performances. However, Tampa Bay must build upon this victory before climbing higher.
23\. Las Vegas Raiders (3-4)
Las Vegas suffered another disappointing defeat as the Rams secured a 35-21 victory. The Raiders have now lost four consecutive games following their promising start. Furthermore, their defense continues surrendering too many points. Las Vegas must regain its early momentum before playoff hopes to begin disappearing.
24\. Miami Dolphins (1-5)
Miami earned a much-needed 28-25 victory against the New York Jets. The Dolphins finally found a way to finish a competitive game. Furthermore, rookie Jacob Rodriguez continues making an impressive defensive contribution. However, Miami must demonstrate improvement against stronger opponents before moving higher.
Teams Facing Serious Questions: Rankings 25–32
25\. Indianapolis Colts (2-5)
Indianapolis suffered another disappointing defeat as Minnesota secured a 16-10 victory. Jonathan Taylor remains an important offensive contributor. However, the Colts continue struggling to generate enough scoring opportunities. Indianapolis must improve its passing attack before its season slips further away.
26\. Philadelphia Eagles (2-5)
Philadelphia continues experiencing one of the NFL’s most disappointing seasons. The Eagles suffered another frustrating defeat as Dallas secured a 38-21 victory. Jalen Hurts and the offense have struggled to establish consistent production. Furthermore, defensive problems continue creating additional pressure. Philadelphia must make significant adjustments before its playoff hopes to disappear.
27\. Arizona Cardinals (2-5)
Arizona suffered a 30-16 defeat against Denver. The Cardinals continue struggling against opponents with stronger defensive units. Furthermore, Arizona needs greater consistency from its offense. The Cardinals must improve their execution to compete more effectively within the NFC West.
28\. New York Jets (2-5)
The Jets suffered a narrow 28-25 defeat against Miami. New York demonstrated offensive improvement but failed to secure the victory. Furthermore, defensive breakdowns continue costing the team important opportunities. The Jets must find a way to finish close games.
29\. Carolina Panthers (3-3)
Carolina suffered an embarrassing 43-13 defeat against Tampa Bay. The Panthers struggled defensively while allowing the Buccaneers to control the game. Furthermore, Carolina failed to generate enough offensive production to remain competitive. The Panthers face another difficult test against Green Bay.
30\. Tennessee Titans (1-6)
Tennessee suffered a frustrating 27-24 defeat against Cleveland. The Titans demonstrated competitiveness but failed to finish the game successfully. Furthermore, Tennessee continues struggling to establish consistency across all three phases. The Titans must improve their late-game execution to produce better results.
31\. New Orleans Saints (2-5)
New Orleans suffered another disappointing defeat as Pittsburgh secured a 16-10 victory. The Saints continue struggling to generate consistent offensive production. Furthermore, their inability to finish drives has become a recurring problem. New Orleans needs significant improvement before competing regularly against stronger opponents.
32\. Los Angeles Chargers (0-6)
Los Angeles remains the NFL’s only winless team entering Week 8. Justin Herbert continues facing considerable pressure as the Chargers search for answers. Furthermore, the team’s struggles extend beyond quarterback play. The Chargers must improve their protection, defensive execution, and overall consistency. Until Los Angeles secures its first victory, the Chargers remain at the bottom.
Week 8 Could Change Everything
The NFL continues demonstrating why predicting championship contenders remains difficult. San Francisco and Kansas City entered Week 7 undefeated before suffering their first defeats. Meanwhile, Minnesota remains the league’s only undefeated team. However, the Vikings must improve offensively to maintain their impressive start. Seattle also demonstrated that it could defeat one of football’s strongest opponents. Furthermore, Cincinnati and Tampa Bay delivered impressive performances that could help reverse their seasons. Dallas also strengthened its position with an important divisional victory against Philadelphia. Nevertheless, the Cowboys must improve defensively before challenging the NFC’s strongest contenders. The Eagles face a different challenge after another disappointing performance. Philadelphia must find answers quickly before its season becomes increasingly difficult to salvage. Meanwhile, Baltimore faces uncertainty surrounding Lamar Jackson’s health.
The Ravens possess considerable talent, but injuries and defensive struggles threaten their championship ambitions. Green Bay also needs improvement following another disappointing divisional defeat. However, Detroit continues proving its ability to win difficult games against familiar opponents. The upcoming schedule provides several important matchups. Kansas City visits Denver in an important AFC West showdown. Meanwhile, Minnesota travels to Detroit for another significant NFC North battle. Tampa Bay also hosts Atlanta in a matchup that could influence the NFC South race. Those games could significantly reshape next week’s rankings. Ultimately, the NFL’s strongest teams must demonstrate consistency rather than relying on reputation. The biggest question entering Week 8 remains simple: Which contender will finally separate itself from the competition?
