Aaron Donald has officially announced his return to the Los Angeles Rams after two seasons in retirement. Rejoining a defense that acquired superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett earlier this offseason, Donald’s comeback forms the most formidable defensive front in modern NFL history.
C’mon, be honest. How many of us who are not Rams fans are saying that’s not fair? How are we supposed to compete with this defensive duo that is probably good for 30 sacks? It is going to be football theater watching how NFL head coaches and offensive coordinators plan to get around this problem.

Unblockable Defensive Front
- The Double-Team Dilemma: Opposing offensive lines can no longer slide protection toward a single star. Double-teaming Donald on the inside leaves Garrett single-blocked on the edge—and vice versa.
- Collapsing the Pocket: Donald’s interior penetration forces quarterbacks to step outside the pocket, pushing them directly into Garrett’s closing speed off the edge. This creates ideal single-coverage matchups for young defenders like Kobie Turner and Jared Verse.
Offensive Synergy & Game Flow
- Playing with the Lead: Matthew Stafford’s high-potency offense already excels at building early leads. When opponents are forced into predictable pass situations, the Rams can unleash their defensive front without fearing the run.
- Field Position Advantage: Short drives and rapid pressure force quick three-and-outs, giving Stafford and Puka Nacua extra possessions on short fields.
Donald’s Usage and Situational Role
- Rotational Snap Count: At 35 years old, Donald will not be asked to log 80% of defensive snaps. Expect a managed workload of 25–35 snaps per game during the regular season to keep his legs fresh for January.
- High-Leverage Deployment: Donald will be deployed primarily on 3rd-and-medium/long, red-zone stands, and late 2-minute drills where pass-rush execution dictates the outcome.
Why the Rams Are Prohibitive Favorites
- Zero Weaknesses: Pairing an elite, championship-winning quarterback with two generational pass rushers gives Los Angeles an unmatched ceiling.
- SoFi Stadium Incentive: With Super Bowl LXI hosted on their home field in Inglewood, the Rams possess the talent, experience, and home-field motivation to enter the 2026 season as the clear betting favorite for the Lombardi Trophy.
