If you are a BC football fan, there was very little to like about last Saturday’s game at Duke: 128 yards in penalties, only 78 rushing yards, and just 213 total yards of offense. None of those numbers were good enough to give Boston College a chance. Meanwhile, Duke running back Nate Sheppard had a massive day, carrying the ball 20 times for 97 net yards and five touchdowns. Duke was also a perfect 7-for-7 in red-zone opportunities. A complete reset is needed as BC prepares for this weekend’s ACC matchup against Florida State.
The Seminoles (3-5, 1-4) have plenty of issues of their own. They started the week by firing head coach Mike Norvell following last weekend’s loss to Clemson. Norvell went 41-39 during his tenure at FSU, which included an undefeated regular season. With the Seminoles sitting at 3-5 overall and in danger of missing out on bowl eligibility, the school faces a $51 million buyout owed to Norvell. A national search for a replacement will begin immediately; in the meantime, Rick Stockwell will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
On the field, quarterback Ashton Daniels ranks second in the nation with 15.40 yards per completion and sixth nationally with 26 total touchdowns. He is also the only quarterback in the country with at least 12 rushing and 12 passing touchdowns. Wide receiver Duce Robinson leads the receiving corps with 24 catches for 438 yards and four touchdowns, standing as one of three FSU receivers with over 400 receiving yards. On defense, Rylan Kennedy ranks 20th nationally in sacks and 23rd in tackles, having recorded at least one tackle for loss in five straight games. As a unit, the Seminoles rank fifth in the ACC and 15th nationally with 2.88 sacks per game, coming off a season-high seven pass breakups against Clemson. If the game comes down to special teams, FSU holds a clear advantage: placekicker Gabe Panikowski is a perfect 7-for-7 on field goal attempts this season and 22-for-22 in his career, making him the only active college kicker across all divisions without a missed field goal.

Florida State holds a 15-5 all-time series lead over Boston College, including a 14-4 mark in conference play. The Seminoles have traditionally played well at Alumni Stadium, going 9-3 all-time in Chestnut Hill while winning each of their last three games at BC.
Boston College (4-4, 2-3) boasts an ACC-leading 11 interceptions and allows just 188.5 passing yards per game, which ranks third in the conference. Safety KP Price leads the ACC with 37 solo tackles and recorded his 250th career tackle last week. The Eagles defense averages 6.6 tackles for loss per game (fifth in the ACC) and ranks eighth in the conference in total defense, allowing 339.4 yards per game. BC will be searching for its first home victory over Florida State since October 27, 2017.
