The Florida Gators delivered one of their biggest victories of the 2026 college football season Saturday afternoon. Florida stunned the seventh-ranked Texas Longhorns 27-24 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.
The Gators entered the Southeastern Conference showdown looking to end a two-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Texas hoped to protect its home field and strengthen its position in the conference race.
However, Florida had other plans.
The Gators overcame a 17-3 first-half deficit and outscored Texas 24-7 after that point. Florida improved to 5-2 overall, while Texas dropped to 4-2.
Sophomore quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. faced tremendous pressure in his first collegiate start. Starting quarterback Aaron Philo dealt with a shoulder injury, forcing Florida to make a change.
Jones faced a nationally ranked opponent, a hostile crowd, and a defense eager to exploit his inexperience. Nevertheless, the young quarterback helped Florida produce a memorable comeback.
Texas Takes Control EarlyHowdy, Bradley Walker
Texas wasted little time establishing its offensive attack.
Running back Raleek Brown broke loose for a 32-yard touchdown run during the opening possession. The seven-play, 75-yard drive gave the Longhorns an early 7-0 advantage.
Florida struggled to respond offensively. The Gators went three-and-out on their opening possession, giving Texas another opportunity.
Later, Texas kicker Gianni Spetic connected on a 38-yard field goal. The successful kick extended the Longhorns’ lead to 10-0.
Florida’s defense faced an early challenge against quarterback Arch Manning and the Texas offense. Meanwhile, the Gators needed their offense to establish some rhythm.
The opening quarter belonged to Texas, but Florida still had plenty of football remaining.
Special Teams Give Texas Another Boost
Florida finally reached the scoreboard early in the second quarter.
Kicker Patrick Durkin connected on a 45-yard field goal, cutting Texas’ advantage to 10-3.
However, the Longhorns answered with one of the game’s biggest special teams plays.
Florida punter Alec Clark delivered a punt that Texas returner Ryan Niblett turned into a touchdown. Niblett raced 63 yards for the score, extending Texas’ advantage to 17-3.
The touchdown placed Florida in a difficult position.
Texas controlled the scoreboard, and the Gators struggled to sustain offensive possessions.
Still, Florida refused to let the game slip away before halftime.
Jones Sparks Florida Before Halftime
Florida desperately needed an offensive breakthrough before entering the locker room.
Jones delivered one during the closing moments of the second quarter.
The Gators gained possession at the Texas 49-yard line, giving their offense favorable field position.
Jones directed the offense downfield and found tight end Luke Dippre for a seven-yard touchdown pass.
Durkin converted the extra point, cutting Texas’ lead to 17-10 with 18 seconds remaining.
The touchdown changed the atmosphere surrounding Florida’s sideline.
Instead of entering halftime facing a 14-point deficit, the Gators trailed by just seven.
More importantly, Jones demonstrated that he could respond under pressure.
Florida entered the second half with renewed confidence and a realistic opportunity to upset Texas.
Florida Completes the Second-Half Comeback
The third quarter brought a dramatic change in momentum.
Florida scored the only touchdown of the period, pulling even with Texas at 17-17.
Meanwhile, the Gators’ defense prevented the Longhorns from adding another point during the quarter.
That defensive effort proved crucial after Texas enjoyed considerable success early.
The Gators entered the fourth quarter with an opportunity to complete an impressive road comeback.
Florida added 10 points during the final period, while Texas answered with seven.
Ultimately, the Gators secured the 27-24 victory.
Florida’s second-half performance demonstrated the importance of remaining competitive despite an early deficit.
The Gators outscored Texas 17-7 after halftime and held the Longhorns to one second-half touchdown.
Although Texas controlled much of the first half, Florida delivered when the game mattered most.
The final score and quarter totals are confirmed. The available reports do not yet establish every second-half scoring play or individual statistic.

Key Players Make Their Presence Felt
Jones deserves considerable recognition for helping Florida overcome its early offensive struggles.
His touchdown pass to Dippre provided the spark Florida desperately needed before halftime.
Furthermore, Jones faced an enormous challenge against one of college football’s highest-ranked programs.
Running back Jadan Baugh also entered the contest as a significant part of Florida’s offensive plans.
Baugh had accumulated 672 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns entering Saturday’s matchup.
However, Florida needed contributions throughout its lineup to overcome Texas.
On the other sideline, Brown delivered an early explosive touchdown run for the Longhorns.
Niblett also provided a major contribution with his 63-yard punt return touchdown.
Additionally, Manning directed the Texas offense against a Florida defense seeking redemption after consecutive defeats.
Despite those contributions, the Longhorns could not protect their early advantage.
A Statement Victory for Jon Sumrall
Florida head coach Jon Sumrall entered Saturday facing questions about his team’s direction.
The Gators suffered consecutive defeats against Missouri and South Carolina after opening the season with four victories.
Missouri dominated Florida 45-17 before South Carolina handed the Gators a 38-19 defeat.
Those losses raised concerns about Florida’s consistency against quality SEC opponents.
However, Saturday’s victory provided a much-needed response.
The Gators demonstrated resilience, overcame adversity, and defeated a nationally ranked opponent away from Gainesville.
More importantly, Florida showed that its season still holds considerable promise.
Texas entered the contest hoping to recover from its own disappointing loss against Oklahoma.
Instead, the Longhorns suffered another three-point defeat.
For Florida, the victory could become a defining moment of Sumrall’s first season.
The Gators still face difficult conference challenges, including their upcoming matchup against Georgia.
Nevertheless, Saturday’s performance gives Florida momentum entering another demanding stretch.
Final Thoughts
Florida’s 27-24 victory over Texas represents much more than another conference win.
The Gators entered Austin without their regular starting quarterback and faced a 14-point first-half deficit.
They could have allowed the game to get away from them.
Instead, Florida fought back, tightened its defense, and produced a memorable victory.
Jones provided an important offensive spark, while the defense helped turn the momentum.
Meanwhile, Texas must examine another disappointing finish after holding a substantial early advantage.
The Longhorns possessed the talent and opportunity to win, but Florida made the stronger second-half response.
For the Gators, the victory restores confidence following two frustrating defeats.
Florida proved it could compete against a top-10 opponent in one of college football’s toughest environments.
Final score: Florida Gators 27, No. 7 Texas Longhorns 24.
