Week two of the 2026 NFL season brought plenty of surprises. Several teams bounced back after rough openers, while others fell into deeper trouble. The Buffalo Bills started the week with a statement win over the Detroit Lions. Buffalo defeated Detroit 41-31 on Thursday night. The Bills improved to 2-0 and continued their strong start.
Winners
Buffalo Bills
Buffalo deserves plenty of credit for opening the season 2-0. The Bills followed their Week 1 victory with another strong offensive showing. Their win over Detroit featured 41 points and enough production to keep the Lions from controlling the game. Buffalo now enters Week 3 with momentum.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals also moved to 2-0 after beating Houston 20-6. More importantly, their defense continued showing major improvement. Cincinnati held Houston without a touchdown. The Bengals also recorded five sacks against C.J. Stroud. Ja’Marr Chase also responded after a quiet opening week. He caught two touchdown passes against the Texans. The Bengals now have a defense that can complement Joe Burrow’s offense.
Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota improved to 2-0 after defeating Chicago 9-3. The Vikings relied heavily on their defense throughout the game. Minnesota limited Chicago to only three points. The Vikings also pressured Caleb Williams before his late-game injury. The defense has now allowed only six points across the last six quarters.
Carolina Panthers
Carolina delivered one of the week’s biggest turnarounds. The Panthers destroyed Atlanta 34-3 after allowing 59 points in Week 1. Devin Lloyd led the defensive effort with nine tackles, a sack and two interceptions. He also recorded three passes defensed and two tackles for loss. The Panthers looked like a completely different team from the one that opened the season.
Dallas Cowboys
Dallas answered its disappointing Week 1 performance with an offensive explosion. The Cowboys defeated Washington 37-20. Dak Prescott completed 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns. Dallas scored on seven of eight possessions during one stretch. That offensive performance provided a much-needed response after Week 1.
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle continued its impressive run with a 31-7 victory over Arizona. The Seahawks improved to 2-0 and extended their winning streak to 12 games. That streak includes the postseason. Seattle also has won 10 straight games against the Cardinals. That remains the longest active winning streak against one opponent.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers looked dominant against Miami. San Francisco cruised to a 35-13 victory. Brock Purdy completed 20 of 22 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored a rushing touchdown. San Francisco controlled the game throughout the second half. The 49ers now look like one of the NFC’s early contenders.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City survived another close game but improved to 2-0. The Chiefs defeated Indianapolis 33-30 in overtime. Harrison Butker connected on the game-winning 40-yard field goal. Patrick Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns. Travis Kelce added nine catches for 101 yards and one touchdown.

Losers
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers suffered one of Week 2’s biggest disappointments. Las Vegas defeated Los Angeles 26-14. The Raiders improved to 2-0, while the Chargers dropped to 0-2. Justin Herbert struggled with turnovers throughout the afternoon. Los Angeles also continued dealing with injuries. A team with high expectations now faces an early uphill battle.
Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta suffered another ugly loss. The Panthers crushed the Falcons 34-3. The Falcons have now lost their first two games. Their quarterback situation remains a major concern. Cooper Rush threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. Rookie Jack Strand also threw a pick-six after entering the game.
Houston Texans
Houston also dropped to 0-2 after losing to Cincinnati. The Texans managed only six points at home. Their offense also failed to score a touchdown. Houston has now gone 16 consecutive offensive drives without a touchdown. The running game produced only 18 combined yards from its primary backs.
Chicago Bears
Chicago experienced one of the biggest offensive drop-offs in recent NFL history. The Bears scored 59 points during Week 1. They scored only three against Minnesota. That 56-point decrease ranks as the second-largest Week 1-to-Week 2 drop in NFL history. Caleb Williams also left the game with a leg injury late in the fourth quarter.
Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore suffered a painful home loss against New Orleans. The Ravens led 14-3 before the Saints rallied for a 24-17 victory. Baltimore failed to close out another game after holding a double-digit advantage. The loss dropped Baltimore to 1-1.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh’s offense struggled badly against New England. The Patriots defeated the Steelers 20-3. Pittsburgh managed only three points during the game. Aaron Rodgers also struggled to create opportunities. He took four sacks and committed two turnovers. The Steelers now have only 23 points through their first two games.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay dropped to 0-2 after losing 23-19 to Cleveland. The Buccaneers had a chance to rally late. However, Baker Mayfield’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete. Tampa Bay now faces pressure to avoid digging an even deeper hole.
Washington Commanders
Washington also remains winless after two games. The Commanders lost 37-20 against Dallas. Jayden Daniels also left the game with an elbow injury. Washington struggled to slow down Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense. The Commanders now face questions on both sides of the ball.
Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis nearly pulled off an upset against Kansas City. However, the Colts ultimately lost 33-30 in overtime. The Colts reached the red zone late in overtime but settled for a field goal. Kansas City then won the game on Butker’s kick. Indianapolis remains 0-2 despite showing enough offense to compete.
New York Giants
The Giants closed Week 2 with a rough Monday night. Los Angeles defeated New York 28-6. The Giants finished the night with only six points. New York now sits at 0-2 after struggling to generate enough offense through two games.
Week 2 Changes the Early Picture
Two weeks do not define an NFL season. Still, Week 2 created some important early trends. The Bengals, Bills, Vikings, Seahawks, 49ers and Chiefs all moved to 2-0. Meanwhile, several teams already face an 0-2 hole. The Chargers, Falcons and Texans need answers quickly. The Bears and Commanders also must monitor quarterback injuries. Meanwhile, teams like Dallas, Carolina and Cincinnati showed how quickly fortunes can change. That makes Week 3 especially important. Some early winners can strengthen their position, while several losers need to stop the bleeding.
As you can see that teams that were winners last week have fallen to loser status in week two.
