Head coach Jon Sumrall kicked off his Florida tenure with an offensive clinic on Saturday night, as the Florida Gators rolled past Florida Atlantic 66–21 in front of a sold-out home crowd of 90,295 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Racking up 624 yards of total offense and scoring on 10 of their 11 possessions, the Gators surpassed the 60-point mark for the first time since 2021 and delivered their highest-scoring season opener since 1994.
High-Octane Quarterback Play and Rushing Dominance
Making his first start under center for the Gators, Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo put on an efficient display, completing 16-of-21 passes for 275 yards, three passing touchdowns, and one rushing score. Philo wasted no time establishing early rhythm, executing a 7-play, 94-yard opening drive capped by a 49-yard catch-and-run touchdown to Vernell Brown III. On the ground, running back Jadan Baugh anchored the offensive interior, rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries (11.4 avg) to surpass 2,000 career rushing yards.
