The 2026 Presidents Cup now has its full International Team roster. Captain Geoff Ogilvy finalized his 12-player squad on Tuesday. The team combines experienced veterans with several Presidents Cup newcomers. The International Team will face the United States at Medinah Country Club. The event runs from September 24 through September 27. The Automatic Qualifiers Six players earned automatic spots through the International Team standings. Si Woo Kim leads the group after another strong season. The South Korean star will make his fourth Presidents Cup appearance.
Hideki Matsuyama also returns after securing another automatic berth. The Japanese star brings major championship experience to Ogilvy’s lineup. Ryan Fox earned his first Presidents Cup selection through the standings. The New Zealand star enters the event after winning The Open Championship. Min Woo Lee also secured an automatic position. The Australian has quickly established himself among the game’s top international players. Tom Kim will return for another Presidents Cup appearance. The South Korean remains one of the team’s most recognizable young stars. Adam Scott rounds out the automatic qualifiers. The Australian veteran brings years of Presidents Cup experience. That group gives Ogilvy a strong foundation. It also provides plenty of experience for the team’s younger players.
Ogilvy Adds Six Captain’s Picks
Ogilvy then completed his roster with six captain’s picks. Those selections include Corey Conners, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Sungjae Im. Ryo Hisatsune, Nico Echavarria and Nick Taylor complete the roster. Conners give the International Team another experienced Canadian player. His ball-striking could prove valuable on Medinah’s demanding layout. Bezuidenhout brings another South African presence to the roster. He also gives Ogilvy another steady option for team matches. Sungjae Im adds significant Presidents Cup experience despite his relatively young age. He previously represented the International Team in 2019 and 2022. Hisatsune gives Japan another representative alongside Matsuyama. Meanwhile, Echavarria becomes the lone Colombian player on the roster. Nick Taylor adds another Canadian veteran to the group. He will make his Presidents Cup debut at Medinah.
Experience Meets Youth
The International Team has an interesting balance throughout the roster. Scott and Matsuyama provide years of experience at the highest level. Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim also understand the pressure of this competition. Meanwhile, Fox arrives with plenty of momentum. His Open Championship victory gives him an important confidence boost. The captain’s picks also create more depth. Ogilvy can now build different combinations for four-ball and foursomes. That could become crucial against the Americans. The Presidents Cup features four-ball, foursomes and singles match. Each session requires different skills and partnerships. Four-ball rewards aggressive play and strong individual scoring. Foursomes demand chemistry, patience and precise shot-making. Therefore, Ogilvy must find the right combinations quickly.
A Major Challenge Awaits
The International Team faces a difficult task at Medinah. The Americans have dominated the Presidents Cup throughout its history. The United States has won the last 10 editions. The International Team last won the competition in 1998. The 2003 Presidents Cup ended in a tie. That history makes this year’s challenge even larger. Still, the International Team enters with legitimate talent. Ogilvy also understands what winning this event requires. The Australian has experience competing at the highest level. He will have Trevor Immelman beside him as a captain’s assistant. Immelman returns after serving in the same role during the 2024 event.
Now, the focus shifts toward Medinah. The International Team has enough talent to make the Americans uncomfortable. However, talent alone will not win the Presidents Cup. Ogilvy needs his players to embrace the team concept. He also needs his veterans to guide the newcomers. Most importantly, the International Team needs to start fast. Medinah will provide a difficult test for both sides. The International Team believes it has the pieces to challenge the Americans. Now, the players must prove it when competition begins.
