As the season pushes itself past the halfway mark, the time for stars to shine will become magnified. The playoff picture is just beginning to take shape, but by no means is there any time for rest. This is the time to come up big and last night, we had a few stars tht shone bright.
Here is a look at everything that went down on the hardwood last night.

Dallas Wings 108, Toronto Tempo 95
History in Montreal: Bueckers and Mabrey Trade Counterpunches
A piece of WNBA history was written last night at the Bell Centre as a sellout crowd and WNBA record, 20,996 fans packed the arena for the first-ever WNBA game played in Montreal. The historic crowd was treated to an absolute offensive clinic, culminating in a 108-95 victory for the Dallas Wings.
The 34-Point Duel
The game transformed into an elite, bucket-for-bucket showcase between two of the league’s most lethal scorers. Toronto’s Marina Mabrey was spectacular in front of the Canadian crowd, dropping 34 points (6-9 3pt). However, Paige Bueckers matched her step-for-step, anchoring the Wings with a magnificent 34 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
The Fourth-Quarter Lockdown
Toronto caught fire early, carving up Dallas’ interior defense to put up 33 points in the opening frame and eventually stretching their lead to as many as 13 points (42-29) in the second quarter. Dallas slowly chipped away, trailing 56-52 at intermission before completely taking over the game in the final period.
The Wings’ defense turned the screws when it mattered most:
- The Blueprint: Dallas outscored Toronto in each of the final three quarters.
- The Climax: In the fourth quarter, the Wings held the Tempo to a mere 10 points—the fewest points Dallas has allowed in a final frame all season.
Alongside Bueckers, veteran guard Arike Ogunbowale orchestrated the offense beautifully with 7 assists, while Jessica Shepard’s dirty work (20 points, 17 rebounds) on the glass helped Dallas dominate the rebounding battle 32-24.
Golden State Valkyries 79, Connecticut Sun 64
Lucky Number Seven: Valkyries Tie for First with Suffocating Defense
The Golden State Valkyries continued their scorching summer run, rolling into Mohegan Sun Arena and stifling the Connecticut Sun 79-64. The victory marks a franchise-record seventh consecutive win for Golden State, vaulting them into a first-place deadlock with Minnesota and Las Vegas atop the WNBA standings.
“Our identity is on the defensive end,” Valkyries guard Veronica Burton said postgame. “When we string together stops like we did in the second quarter, it fuels everything we want to do in transition.”
A Six-Point Stunner
Even with leading scorer Gabby Williams sidelined due to a back contusion, Golden State didn’t skip a beat. Their league-best defense completely paralyzed Connecticut in the second frame, holding the Sun to an unbelievable 6 points on 3-of-15 shooting, which included a brutal six-minute scoring drought.
- The Second-Half Avalanche: Leading 30-25 at the break, Golden State orchestrated an 11-0 explosion in the third quarter to balloon the lead to 60-44.
- The Spark Plugs: Veronica Burton delivered a stellar performance with a team-high 17 points. She received massive bench support from Janelle Salaun, who caught fire from deep, draining four 3-pointers en route to a 16-point night.
Connecticut, playing severely short-handed without pillars Brittney Griner, Aneesah Morrow, and Saniya Rivers, simply lacked the offensive firepower to climb out of the hole. Diamond Miller fought hard to finish with 14 points, but 20 team turnovers doomed any hopes of a Sun comeback.
Los Angeles Sparks 102, Chicago Sky 87
Sparks Stay Hot: Balanced Attack Overwhelms Sky in L.A.
The Los Angeles Sparks proved that their mid-week offensive explosion was no fluke. Following up a 106-point performance against Indiana, the Sparks crossed the century mark once again at Crypto.com Arena, handling the Chicago Sky 102-87.
Shared Scoring Wealth
While veteran icon Nneka Ogwumike paced the Sparks with a dominant 25-point, 8-rebound performance, the story of the night was the fluid ball movement implemented by coach Lynne Roberts. Just like Wednesday night, Los Angeles operated with immense synergy, routinely finding the open player in transition.
Chicago kept the game tight early behind a roaring first quarter, leading 29-28. However, the Sky’s offense grew entirely stagnant without veteran guard Skylar Diggins (knee injury), relying too heavily on isolation plays. Chicago gave up 25 points off turnovers to an aggressive L.A. perimeter defense.
The Sparks broke the game wide open in the fourth quarter with a 29-17 run. Alongside Ogwumike’s mastery, Dearica Hamby and Rae Burrell heavily chipped in to ensure Los Angeles secures consecutive wins and builds significant momentum heading into the back half of July.
