The 2026 offseason would kick off with a bang, seeing multiple stars traded in the first couple of weeks. The biggest trade of the offseason so far would be the trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat. Other notable stars traded include Kawhi Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers back to the Toronto Raptors, Julius Randle from Minnesota to Brooklyn, LaMelo Ball from Charlotte to Minnesota, and Ja Morant from Memphis to Portland, among others.
The 2026 free agency period would open on June 30th at 6 p.m. ET. Numerous players would agree to return to their respective teams, with one of the biggest re-signings being Austin Reaves declining is $14.9 million player option before agreeing to a new four-year, $185 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, which financially played a role in LeBron James announcing he intends to play elsewhere next season. While reports say James is expected to receive offers from around a dozen teams, signs are pointing to James either joining Stephen Curry on the Golden State Warriors or returning to Cleveland for his third stint.
Other free agency signings on the opening night of free agency and before the beginning of free agency opening include:

- Andrew Wiggins intends to return to the Miami Heat on a three-year, $64 million contract
- Day’Ron Sharpe intends to re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets on a two-year, $20 million deal
- Josh Minott intends to return to the Nets on a two-year, $9 million deal
- Jose Alvarado returns to the Knicks on a three-year, $14+ million deal
- Isaiah Hartenstein returns to the Oklahoma City Thunder on a three-year, $75 million deal
