LONDON — Following a 16-month hiatus and his fifth “retirement,” Tyson Fury proved he still has plenty of magic left in his gloves. On Saturday night at a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, “The Gypsy King” secured a comprehensive unanimous decision victory over the heavy-hitting Arslanbek Makhmudov.
The judges’ scorecards reflected a masterclass in ringcraft, reading 120-108, 120-108, and 119-109 in favor of the Brit.
Shaking Off the Rust
Despite the long layoff following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, Fury looked remarkably sharp. From the opening bell, he used his signature feints and superior footwork to neutralize Makhmudov’s raw power.
- Early Pressure: Makhmudov came out aggressive in the first round, landing a clubbing right hand, but he quickly found himself hitting air as Fury began to “slip and slide.”
- The Middle Rounds: By the sixth, Makhmudov was visibly fatigued. Fury began to tee off with sharp uppercuts and body shots, at one point pinning the Russian against the ropes in the 10th and nearly forcing a stoppage.
- The Clinch: Fury utilized his size advantage effectively, leaning on Makhmudov in the clinches and draining the energy out of the man known as “The Lion.”
The “Battle of Britain” is On
The drama didn’t end with the final bell. During his post-fight interview, Fury wasted no time addressing a familiar face sitting ringside: Anthony Joshua.
“I got a sharp 12 rounds in there,” Fury told the crowd. “Next, I want to give you the fight we’ve all been waiting for. I want you, AJ. Let’s give the fans the Battle of Britain. Do you accept?”
Joshua, who remained stoic during the call-out, later told reporters he has “never had a problem getting in the ring” with Fury. Shortly after the broadcast, Netflix—which streamed the fight—teased that the long-awaited mega-fight is being targeted for this autumn in the UK.
The Bottom Line: Tyson Fury is officially back in the win column (35-2-1). Whether he can reclaim undisputed status remains to be seen, but a showdown with Anthony Joshua finally feels inevitable.
