Denae Benites New York Heights
Read Time:3 Minute, 56 Second
Hosted entirely at a neutral venue in Springfield, Illinois (Robin Roberts Stadium), the WPBL showcases top international talent from ten countries, providing an unprecedented, long-overdue professional pipeline for women in baseball. The season will run through September, so we still have a little ways to go. We take a look at the opening weeks of this historic season and see how the ladies on the diamond are hoping in their quest to make this dream stick.
- The Denae Benites Phenomenon: New York Heights star Denae Benites pushed her historic individual start even further. Benites continues to sit atop nearly every major statistical hitting category in the WPBL, pacing the league in batting average (.647), home runs (8), RBIs (24), and stolen bases (8).
- Arms Control in Los Angeles: The LA Queens maintained their top spot in the standings largely due to the arm of Meggie Meidlinger, who leads the league with a sparkling 1.08 ERA and 0.84 WHIP, alongside heavy rotation work from Michelle Roche (17.1 IP).
- Hunters Rebuilding Rhythm: Boston worked to find operational consistency under manager Jemile Weeks, who stepped in following Keith Foulke’s early-August departure. Despite tough pitching losses from Alli Schroder and Raine Padgham, Boston managed key bounce-back performances to remain within two games of first place.
- Fast-Paced Action: Broadcasts on ESPN Select and Scripps Sports highlighted the league’s high-octane 7-inning format, where composite and aluminum bats continue to yield dramatic comeback wins and high-scoring battles.
