The University of Tampa Spartans returned home looking to get back on track after suffering their first series loss of 2026 during a challenging road trip to Georgia. The Spartans welcomed the 7–13 Davenport Panthers to Tampa Baseball Field for a four-game set, beginning with a single game on Friday, a Saturday doubleheader, and a Sunday morning finale. Entering the weekend with a 16–3 record and a No. 3 national ranking, Tampa quickly proved that home-field advantage was exactly what they needed.
Game One
This was a masterclass in pitching led by Robert Satin. Entering the contest with a perfect 5–0 record, Satin tossed seven scoreless innings while racking up nine strikeouts and allowing only three hits. The Spartans‘ offense provided early support, scoring all four of their runs within the first three innings. The highlight of the night came in the second inning when designated hitter Gunnett Carlson cleared the bases with a two-run triple. Behind a combined five-hit shutout, Tampa secured a 4–0 victory, and Satin improved his unblemished record to 6–0.
Game Two
The Saturday doubleheader began with the Spartans facing an uncharacteristic early deficit. Davenport jumped out to a 3–0 lead in the first inning of game two, but the Spartans responded with an offensive onslaught. UT erased the lead immediately, scoring in each of the next three innings to build a 13–3 lead by the fifth. Gunnett Carlson continued his hot weekend with a home run, and Jordan Evans added one of his own shortly after. The Spartans added four more runs in the sixth to push the lead to 17–3, ending the game early via the run rule.
Game Three
The game followed a similar script as the Spartans’ pitching and timely hitting overwhelmed the Panthers once again. Although Davenport struck first with a run in the second, Tampa answered with a five-run explosion in the third. Starting pitcher John Luke Glanton dominated the zone, allowing just one run on four hits over seven innings. The Spartans added solo runs in the fourth and fifth before a four-run seventh inning triggered the 10-run rule, giving Tampa an 11–1 victory and a guaranteed series win.
Game Four
The series finale on Sunday morning was the only contest to go the full nine innings, and it provided the weekend’s biggest surprise. Tampa appeared to be cruising toward a sweep, leading 5–1 heading into the late innings. However, the Panthers’ bats finally woke up in the eighth inning, as they tagged the Spartans for six runs to take an 8–5 lead. For only the fourth time this year, the Spartans fell short, unable to answer the late rally. Despite the game-four loss, Tampa claimed the series 3–1 and now prepares to host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish for a three-game conference series beginning this Friday.
