The University of Tampa Spartans are looking to regain their momentum after experiencing their first setback of the 2026 season. That loss came at the hands of the Savannah State Tigers in a shutout victory, which snapped the Spartans’ bid for a perfect February. Despite that defeat, UT finished the month strong during a three-game road series against the Lynn Fighting Knights. This set was the start of an extended road trip that also took the team to Valdosta, Georgia, to face the Valdosta State Blazers. The Spartans are settling into life on the road and will not return to Tampa until mid-March. Up next is a challenging series in Americus, Georgia, against the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes. Here is a look at the results from the Lynn series and the midweek matchup with the Blazers.
Game One
The Spartans wasted no time bouncing back from their first loss of the year. In the series opener against Lynn, UT got on the board in the second inning and added another run in the fourth. While many of the team’s early games in 2026 have been defined by high-scoring offenses, this contest was a showcase for the pitching staff. Starting pitcher Robert Satin continued his dominant campaign, improving to a perfect 5-0 on the season. He received late-inning support from Sammy Beir, who locked down his third save of the year. The Fighting Knights were held to just five hits all afternoon. The Spartans’ offense provided plenty of insurance with two runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth to secure a clean 6-0 shutout victory.
Game Two
To close out the month of February, the Spartans relied on a familiar script by jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. The game broke open in the fifth when the UT bats erupted for seven runs, and the team added single runs in each of the final three innings to maintain pressure. Lynn managed to make things interesting late by scoring a combined seven runs over the eighth and ninth innings, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The Spartans finished with 12 runs on 11 hits compared to Lynn’s eight runs on 10 hits. B.J. Bailey earned the win to remain undefeated on the mound. With this victory, UT maintained its perfect record within the Sunshine State Conference and ended February with only one loss on the schedule.
Game Three
The series finale saw the Spartans face early adversity, as the Fighting Knights held a 2-1 lead after three innings. However, the Lynn lead was short-lived as the Spartans responded with a four-run burst in the top of the fourth. The middle innings saw both teams trading blows, but UT entered the final stretch with a comfortable 11-6 lead. Neither team could manage a run in the last two innings, and both sides committed a fielding error in the late stages. The 11-6 win gave the Spartans a three-game sweep and moved them to 6-0 in conference play. It was a performance that proved the UT lineup can generate high-volume offense whenever needed. Following the celebration, the team boarded the bus to head north into Georgia.
Valdosta State Blazers
The Spartans’ offensive power was on full display once again as they arrived in Valdosta. UT dominated from the first pitch, racking up eight runs in the first three innings alone. The Bulls recorded 13 hits and found the scoreboard in six of the nine innings played. The Blazers, who entered the game with a 6-10 record, struggled to keep pace despite a three-run surge in the seventh inning. The Spartans’ pitching staff remained composed, limiting Valdosta State to seven hits over the course of the afternoon. Aided by two Blazers’ fielding errors, the Spartans cruised to a 14-6 victory. This win marked the 14th of the 2026 season for the University of Tampa, which now carries significant momentum into their series with the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes.
