BOSTON (August 21, 2026) – Boston Fleet forward Shay Maloney joined the Corey’s Kids Back-to-School Backpack Drive in partnership with the Corey C. Griffin Foundation on Wednesday, August 19, in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The afternoon event provided more than 4,000 kids with backpacks and school supplies to help them start the upcoming school year with confidence.
“My favorite part of this event was handing out all the backpacks to the kids,” Maloney said. “It was really fun to have the opportunity to interact with the community and see how excited the kids were for all their new school supplies. It’s so special to be able to represent the Fleet at community events like these because the fans show up for us every game so we want to always show up for them too.”
Each year, the Back-to-School Backpack Drive helps thousands of Boston-area students head into the classroom equipped for a successful school year, making it the region’s largest event of its kind. More than a single back-to-school initiative, the program reflects the Corey C. Griffin Foundation’s ongoing investment in Boston’s young people through collaborations with respected academic and healthcare institutions, youth development and enrichment programs, and nonprofit organizations working to expand opportunities and strengthen support for children in underserved communities.
“The goal of doing our annual backpack drive is to really pour love into the community and help support kids as they prepare to go back to school,” Foundation President Chandra Clark said. “We really believe that all students deserve to start school with a new backpack filled with high-quality items because they’re all unique individuals who deserve supplies that prepare them for success. Having Shay out here with us was wonderful to show the kids a positive role model like her.”
Corey C. Griffin was a Boston-area philanthropist, entrepreneur, athlete, and devoted friend known for his generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. A graduate of Babson College, Corey built a career in finance while dedicating his time and resources to causes that supported children, families, and underserved communities. Following his passing in 2014 at age 27, his family and friends established the Corey C. Griffin Foundation to honor his legacy by creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
