Fleet's Megan Keller, Shay Maloney Help Kick Off Score Boston's All Girls Hockey Program

BOSTON, MA (August 10, 2026) – Boston Fleet captain Megan Keller and forward Shay Maloney joined SCORE Boston’s Girls in Sports Community event on Sunday, August 9, celebrating the official launch of their girls’ program, funded by the NHL Foundation U.S. Empowerment Grant for Girls Hockey.

“For a lot of the families we work with, the first time they’re experiencing hockey is through our program,” SCORE Boston Director of Community and Family Engagement Dallas Jackson said. “It’s huge for our community to see women’s professional hockey back in Boston. It gives our girls players to look up to and see that they too can keep loving this sport and make a full-time career out of playing hockey. Oh, and a gold medal is pretty cool to look at too.”

In March, Keller partnered with the NHL Foundation U.S. to donate $100,000 to two organizations of her choosing. The Farmington, MI, native chose to split the funds between organizations in her home state of Michigan and her current home of Boston. Keller selected the Michigan Suburban Hockey Foundation and SCORE Boston as the two recipients, supporting her commitment to creating greater access and opportunities for girls in hockey in both communities.

“Michigan and Boston are two places that have been pivotal to my hockey journey and SCORE was a great program to give the Boston grant to,” Keller said. “They do so much to make hockey more accessible for kids who otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to start in the sport. Being able to get out here with some of the girls today and kick off the all-girls program was amazing. It was fun to play street hockey with them. I was playing goalie and took a few shots off the stomach; they’ve got some strong shots already. I’m looking forward to getting on the ice with some of these girls throughout next season.”

In addition to street hockey, participants at the Girls in Sports Community Event had the opportunity to learn lacrosse skills from players from the Boston Guard of the Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL) and rugby from members of the Boston Banshees of Women’s Elite Rugby (WER). The event was designed to give every participant the chance to try something new, connect with professional athletes from across women’s sports, build confidence and discover that there is a place for them in sports.
