In an SEC titan showdown at Bryant-Denny Stadium, the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs earned a hard-fought 20-17 victory over the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide. Capping off a grueling battle with a go-ahead fourth-quarter field goal, Georgia claimed its first regular-season victory in Tuscaloosa since 2007, improving to 6-0 (4-0 SEC) on the season.
While both powerhouses traded punches in an explosive opening half, the story of the game was Georgia’s defense utterly suffocating Alabama in the second half—snapping the Crimson Tide’s streak of dominant late-game surges.
A Tale of Two Halves: Georgia Defensive Lockdown
Alabama entered the game averaging 49.6 points per contest and built momentum on powerful second-half performances that blew past previous opponents. Early on, that trend seemed poised to continue:
First Half Fireworks: Georgia jumped out to a 10-0 lead following a 93-yard drive highlighted by a 53-yard reception from tight end Jaden Reddell and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Gunner Stockton to London Humphreys. Alabama responded with 14 unanswered points, capping a 12-play, 80-yard drive on the final play of the half to take a 14-10 lead into the locker room.
The Second Half Clampdown: Coming out of the break, Georgia’s defense completely recalibrated. The Bulldogs limited Alabama to just three second-half points and zero points in the fourth quarter. Georgia QB Gunner Stockton reclaimed the lead with a 14-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter.
The Game-Winner: After Alabama tied the game 17-17, Georgia kicker Peyton Woodring redeemed an earlier miss by drilling a 43-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to put Georgia ahead for good, while the Bulldogs’ defense recorded four sacks on the night to seal the win.

SEC, Ranking, and Playoff Implications
-
- Georgia Poised for No. 1: With former No. 1 Texas falling to Oklahoma, No. 2 Georgia is the consensus frontrunner to ascend to the top spot in the national rankings. Moving to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, Kirby Smart’s team holds complete command of the SEC race.
- Alabama Remains in CFP Race: Dropping to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in SEC play, Alabama will slide down in the rankings. However, in a 12-team College Football Playoff structure, a three-point loss to a top-two opponent does little damage to their ultimate championship hopes—though it eliminates their margin for error in the SEC title chase.
