In front of a crowd of 1,008 fans at LeLacheur Park, the Lowell Spinners opened a crucial five-game homestand with an assertive performance against the Worcester Bravehearts. The Spinners entered Wednesday night eager to erase the memory of a painful collapse against Nashua on Monday, a game where they jumped out to a 4-0 lead before letting it slip away late. This time around, Lowell made sure the early advantage stuck.
The Pitching Matchup
- Lowell: Right-hander Matt Pappalardo made his final start of the summer. He took the mound for his fifth appearance of the season, carrying a 4.20 ERA over 15.0 innings pitched.
- Worcester: The Bravehearts countered with Gavin Price, who made his eighth appearance of the summer with a 3.43 ERA across 21.0 innings of work.
Inning-by-Inning Breakdown
Early Traffic and a First-Inning Explosion
The Bravehearts threatened immediately in the top of the first, packing the bags to create a tense, bases-loaded jam. Pappalardo proved unfazed, engineering a clutch escape to keep Worcester off the scoreboard.
In the bottom half, the Spinners’ offense rewarded their pitcher by sending eight men to the plate. Capitalizing on three walks, Nic Lembo delivered the definitive blow of the frame—a blistering double down the left-field line that drove in two runs. When the dust settled, Lowell held a commanding 4-0 lead after one.
Pappalardo Masterful in Modern Escape Acts
Pappalardo found himself in another web of trouble in the top of the second when Worcester’s Benny Hess launched a leadoff triple. Undeterred, the Spinners’ starter locked in, retiring the next three batters in order with a pair of strikeouts and a sharp groundout to third base to leave Hess stranded.
Through three innings, Pappalardo sat on 5 strikeouts and 3 walks, keeping Worcester completely scoreless despite leaving three runners stranded in scoring position. On the other side, Gavin Price’s night ended early after three tough frames.

The Offense Pours It On
Erik Svenson took over duties on the bump for Worcester in the bottom of the fourth, but the Spinners refused to relent. Mirroring their first-inning success, Lowell sent eight batters to the plate for another explosive four-run frame, ballooning the lead to 8-0. Quincy Kerr supplied a key RBI knock during the rally, setting up what would finish as a productive 2-for-4, 2-RBI night at the dish.
Ryan Garner took over the pitching duties for Worcester in the fifth. The Spinners’ bats finally quieted down, maintaining their comfortable 8-0 cushion through five frames.
Bravehearts Break the Shutout in the Sixth
Pappalardo’s stellar final summer start concluded after five masterful, scoreless innings.

Zano Niles took the ball out of the Lowell bullpen for the sixth inning. Worcester finally cracked the scoreboard in the top half of the frame, converting a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to center field by Brayden Cali into a pair of runs.
The rally trimmed the deficit, leaving the score at 8-2 as the game moved into the bottom of the sixth inning.
