There are no more second chances, no more adjustments to save for later, and absolutely no room for error. The 2026 Western Conference Finals have given us plenty of basketball drama, and it all culminates tonight at the Paycom Center.
Following the San Antonio Spurs’ blistering 118–91 demolition of the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6, this heavyweight series is locked at 3–3. For the fifth time in these wide-open 2026 playoffs, fans are treated to the two greatest words in sports: Game 7. The winner earns the right to face the waiting New York Knicks in the NBA Finals; the loser goes home.
The Alien’s Final Quest: What Wemby Must Do
Victor Wembanyama has played like a man possessed, anchoring a young Spurs squad that refuses to blink. In Game 6, he looked every bit the generational titan, racking up 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. But doing it in front of a frenzied home crowd in San Antonio is one thing—conquering a Game 7 on the road in Loud City is an entirely different beast.
To carry the Silver and Black across the finish line and into the NBA Finals, Wembanyama needs to execute three vital tasks. OKC is at its best when driving to attack the rim and generating kick-out passes. Wemby must completely take away the interior, forcing the Thunder to try to beat San Antonio strictly from the outside. Holmgren has been a proud foil, but Wemby’s size and vertical gravity must dictate the terms down low, keeping Chet in foul trouble or pinned away from offensive rebounds. Rookies Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle have been spectacular, but under the blinding pressure of a Game 7 on the road, Wembanyama must be the emotional anchor when the Thunder make their inevitable runs.
SGA Under Fire: Breaking the Defensive Shackles
The pressure on the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder rests squarely on the shoulders of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. While SGA has put together another MVP season, the Spurs have successfully turned him human over the last few games.
Game 6 was a nightmare for the Thunder superstar. Flustered by the length of Wembanyama and the relentless perimeter hounding of Castle, SGA was held to just 15 points on a brutal 6-of-18 shooting performance. Over his last three games in this series, Gilgeous-Alexander is shooting just 36.5% from the field.
If the Thunder are going to protect their home floor, SGA cannot afford a passive start. He must find his rhythm in the mid-range early, draw contact to get to the free-throw line, and punish San Antonio’s aggressive blitzes by finding open shooters like Jared McCain. If SGA struggles to score efficiently out of the gate, the psychological weight of defending their crown could crush OKC.
The Prediction: Who Wins Game 7?
History tells us that home teams win roughly 75% of Game 7s in the NBA playoffs. The Paycom Center will be an absolute madhouse, and the Thunder possess the veteran composure to steady the ship after a horrific blowout loss on the road.
However, momentum and pure matchup physics are a scary combination. The Spurs’ defensive backcourt has successfully figured out how to aggressively deny SGA his favorite spots on the floor, and Wembanyama is playing with the aura of an unstoppable force.
Expect a classic, gritty, defensive bloodbath. SGA will bounce back and play vastly better than he did on Thursday, keeping OKC side-by-side with San Antonio until the final minutes. But down the stretch, the sheer physical impossibility of Wembanyama will be too much to overcome. A late block by Wemby on one end and a signature step-back triple on the other will seal a historic upset.
The Pick: Spurs win a thriller, 104–101, pulling off the road shocker to advance to the NBA Finals.
