The 2026 NBA Playoffs reached a fever pitch on Saturday as the first round shifted into high gear. While the New York Knicks found their footing in Atlanta behind a historic performance, the Oklahoma City Thunder continued their path toward a sweep, and tensions finally boiled over in a physical clash between the Timberwolves and Nuggets.

Towns’ Historic Triple-Double Rescues Knicks
After a turbulent week that saw the Knicks drop two straight, Karl-Anthony Towns silenced the skeptics with his first career postseason triple-double (20 PTS, 10 REB, 10 AST). New York’s 114–98 victory in Atlanta was a masterclass in balance, with OG Anunoby adding 22 points and 10 boards.
The story of the night, however, remained the Knicks’ rotation. Mikal Bridges, who has been under immense pressure after a benching incident in Game 3, remained in the starting lineup but was limited to just 19 minutes. While he was efficient (3-of-4 from the field), head coach Mike Brown leaned heavily on Miles McBride and Josh Hart to close out the game. The series now heads back to Madison Square Garden tied at 2–2.
SGA’s 42-Point Masterclass Puts Phoenix in a Hole
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander looked like an MVP-in-waiting as he dismantled the Suns with a clinical 42 points on an absurd 15-of-18 shooting and 11-12 from the free-throw line. The Thunder took a commanding 3–0 series lead with a 121–109 win in the desert.
Phoenix found an unlikely offensive spark in Dillon Brooks, who poured in 33 points, but Devin Booker (16 PTS) and Jalen Green (26 PTS) simply couldn’t keep pace with OKC’s transition attack. No team in NBA history has ever returned from a 3–0 deficit, leaving the Suns’ season on life support.
Brawl Erupts as Timberwolves Stifle Nuggets
The rivalry between Minnesota and Denver turned ugly in the final seconds of the Timberwolves’ 112–96 victory. With the game decided and 2.1 seconds left, Jaden McDaniels chose to take an uncontested layup instead of dribbling out the clock. Ayo Dosunmu scored a career-high 43 points off the bench. It was the most points by a bench player since Fred Brown scored 45 for the Seattle Supersonics in 1976.
An incensed Nikola Jokic (24 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists) confronted McDaniels, sparking a team-wide scuffle that resulted in the ejections of both Jokic and Wolves forward Julius Randle (15 points, 9 rebounds).
“The clock was still running, so I’m about to go score,” McDaniels said post-game. “I don’t know what Jokic was saying. All I saw was someone that’s big as hell.”
The Wolves now hold a 3–1 lead as the series shifts back to Denver.
Magic Rally to Fend Off Pistons
In Orlando, the Magic nearly blew a massive lead but found their second wind to take a 2–1 series lead over Detroit. Paolo Banchero (25 points, 12 rebounds, nine assists) and Desmond Bane (25 points, seven rebounds) powered the 113–105 win. Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 27 points and 11 assists, but a late scoring drought proved fatal for Detroit’s comeback hopes.
The Magic will try to become the 5th 8-seed to take down a 1-seed.
Saturday was the “Saturday of Stars.” From KAT’s triple-double to SGA’s scoring explosion, the league’s top talent is peaking at the right time. But as the ejections in Minnesota showed, the physical toll of the postseason is starting to grate on even the calmest superstars. Expect a high-octane (and high-tension) Sunday.
