Significant changes have swept through the University of South Florida campus, starting with new leadership for both basketball programs. The women’s program hired Kristy Curry, who joins the Bulls after leading the Alabama Crimson Tide to a March Madness appearance. This follows the departure of former head coach Bryan Hodgson, who left to lead Providence. On the men’s side, Brian Hartline moved quickly to appoint Chris Mack, a coach with a proven championship pedigree in college basketball. Hartline’s hires aim to maintain the upward trajectory of both programs, while the beach volleyball, tennis, and golf teams continue to perform well.
Lacrosse
The USF Bulls lacrosse team continues to build on its success. In their second conference matchup, the Bulls faced the James Madison Dukes in a contest that was deadlocked at halftime. USF found the net twice in the first quarter and three times in the second, while the Dukes scored all five of their first-half goals in the second period. The game shifted in the second half as USF’s defense tightened, allowing the Bulls to outscore James Madison 4-2 to secure a 9-7 victory. USF then took their momentum on the road, beginning with a dominant 21-7 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs to move to 3-0 in conference play. The road trip concluded with a nail-biter against the Richmond Spiders, where the Bulls narrowly fell 15-14. This marked only the third loss of the 2026 season for the program.
Softball
The Bulls recently navigated two conference series, starting with a road trip to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. USF opened the series strong with a 6-4 win, but Game 2 proved disastrous as the Bulls were shut out 15-0 in a five-inning run-rule loss. Tulsa claimed the series with a narrow 3-2 victory in the finale. Returning home to face the Wichita State Shockers, the Bulls initially struggled, losing a 5-4 extra-inning heartbreaker that extended their losing streak to three games—their longest since the T-Mobile Classic. However, USF rallied to win the next two games, taking a tight 3-1 contest before closing out the series with a 6-3 win. The Bulls now head back to the road for a series against the UTSA Roadrunners.
Baseball
Following a midweek win over the Dolphins, USF opened conference play with a resilient showing. After dropping the opener 5-4, the Bulls bounced back with a 2-0 shutout, fueled by elite pitching, and clinched the series with a 7-2 victory. Before their next conference set, the Bulls defeated the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 7-3 in midweek action. USF then left the state of Florida for the first time in 2026 for a road series that proved difficult; the Bulls dropped two out of three, managing only a win in the middle game. Upon returning home, USF faced Bethune-Cookman, looking to avenge an earlier road loss to the Wildcats. However, the result remained the same as the Bulls fell 6-5. USF now prepares to host the Memphis Tigers for a three-game conference series at Red McEwen Field.
