Under a very hot and humid Florida evening, it was time for USF Bulls football. Their opponent was a team that came across from the other coast. The Boise State Broncos visited Raymond James Stadium for the first time. Before the game, we saw many paratroopers from MacDill Air Force Base parachute into the stadium near midfield. The Broncos wore their road white tops, blue pants, and white helmets. The USF Bulls were in all black uniforms, including their helmets. This was the first of three top 25 opponents the Bulls would start their season off against. The next two will also be in the state of Florida, as they traveled to Gainesville to play the #15 Florida Gators. The following week to Coral Gables to play the #10 Miami Hurricanes. The Broncos hold the #25 ranking after making the college football playoff last year.
Tonight’s game marked the second-to-last time the USF Bulls will play in Raymond James Stadium. In 2027, they will open a brand new on-campus stadium. The Bulls won the coin toss and deferred. The Bulls had many big hits, and the last one caused a fumble, which they recovered. The Bulls’ offense looked out of sync early in the game. The first points of the game were scored by Boise State near the end of the first quarter. USF’s first points came off the foot of Nico Gramatica on a 52-yard field goal, making it 7-3. The USF offense started to get into a groove after the first few offensive drives. The Bulls get their first touchdown of 2025 as Bryum Brown muscles his way into the endzone with a 23-yard run to give them a 10-3 lead. Late turnover by the Broncos turned the half around.

The middle of the second half started with a bang as a fake punt led to another USF Bulls touchdown. They had the lead going into the second half and extended it to 17-7 with that touchdown. After the ball was turned over on downs, the Bulls got a long throw, and it would result in another Bryum Brown rushing touchdown. USF led 24-7 as the third quarter came to an end. The Bulls would add another touchdown by Cartevious Norton, and that brought the game to 31-7. As the game entered the fourth quarter, the Boise State Broncos looked gassed on both sides of the ball. Boise State turned the ball over again, and with just over 10 minutes left, the game was fully in control for the Bulls.
This would be the first time since 2011 that USF beat a ranked opponent during their opening week, as they beat Notre Dame in South Bend 23-20. It was an overall great game for the USF Bulls to open their season. Many thought that they had no chance to beat Boise State. The game was dominated by USF after the first part of the first quarter, that is when USF took over and never left their foot off the pedal. Bryum Brown looked good with two rushing touchdowns and the way he rolled over the Broncos’ defense. The final score was 34-7!
