The Pinellas Park Patriots will hit the road for the first time. They are coming off a big win over the Largo Packers. The win was the first one in three years. The game itself was not a good one, but the Patriots made the plays when they were needed. The nail in the coffin was the sack by Quinton O’Driscoll that sealed the win. It was great to see the coaching staff, players, and fans so excited about winning. It was a great way to start the season and see what Pinellas Park needs to work on. They will hit the road to play the East Lake Eagles. The Patriots have had better results with the Eagles over the years. This game will be a non-district game for both teams.
The East Lake Eagles, like the Pinellas Park Patriots, started their season on the road. Unfortunately, the result was not the same for East Lake. The Eagles would visit the state of Georgia to play the Camden County Wildcats. The Wildcats would take the game by 24 points with the final score being 57-33. The game started well for both teams because after the first quarter, the score was 21-14. After that, it was where the game went off the hinges for East Lake. The Wildcats scored another 21 points in the second quarter, going into the half up 42-14. As the third quarter ended at 57-26. East Lake scored one touchdown in garbage time but got beaten. The Eagles have a dual-threat quarterback in Eli Millian, who contributed with passing and rushing versus Camden County.
East Lake gave up 495 total yards and 298 yards on the ground. This is where the Pinellas Park Patriots thrive. Look for head coach Max Smith to pound the rock and test East Lake’s run defense. If the Patriots decide to throw the ball, they can do that, as East Lake gave up 197 yards in the air. The Largo Packers’ defense was much better against the run, but still gave up 151 last Friday night. The leader was running back Nate Vega, who has shown for most of his career that he can pound the rock. Vega led the Patriots in rushing with 74 yards. The one who finished second was Vega right-handed man in Anthony Roman, who has 65 yards. Let’s see how East Lake will stop the rushing attack of Vega and Roman.
The game between the Pinellas Park Patriots and East Lake Eagles will kick off on Friday at 7:30 PM. It will take place at Joe D. Caruthers Stadium. This will be the first home game for East Lake. In the last two years, the Patriots have beaten the Eagles in 2023, the final score was 33-12. Last year, in 2024, the final score was 39-7. Just like the Packers could end the Eagles’ losing streak versus the Patriots. The game mainly took place in the first few weeks of the season. Either way, it will be a good game between East Lake and Pinellas Park.
