ACC Baseball News: Georgia Tech has a New Baseball Coach

It could be said that this spring baseball season for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets was one of change. Danny Hall, who was a legend in the dugout of the Yellow Jackets, stepped down at the end of the season as the ninth-winningest coach in the history of college baseball. The school replaced Hall with James Ramsey, who was an assistant coach since 2019, and in 2021, was named associate head coach. He became the 13th head coach in the program’s history.

Ramsey has made his name in college baseball as a top recruiter and coach. He helped the Yellow Jackets to their first regular-season championship in 14 years. Since joining the program in 2019, GT has become a good offensive team. In Ramsey’s seven years, the Yellow Jackets have led the conference in batting average (.308), hits (3,961), doubles (796), on-base percentage (.408), OPS (.918), and sacrifice flies (208). The team ranked second in runs (2,937), triples (84), home runs (547), RBI (2,709), and slugging percentage (.510).

Ramsey has also been the recruiting coordinator since the 2019 season ended, and the upgrade has been impressive. They have had four top-5 classes and five top-10 classes. The six classes that Reamsey has been a part of have all landed in the top 20. The 2024 class is ranked at #2, which is the highest in the baseball program’s history.

He knows the league he is involved with as he graduated from Florida State in 2012, where he was a four-year letterman and a three-year starter in the Seminoles outfield. That summer, he was drafted #23 overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round. He would play seven years of pro ball with five different organizations. The Cardinals, Indians, Dodgers, Mariners, and Twins. He did play in the 2014 MLB Future All-Star game.

Georgia Tech finished the 2025 season with a 41-19 overall record and 19-11 in league play. They were knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Ole Miss on June 1
