The PGA is on the verge of having their second major of the year. It comes after one of the better Masters that just happened just a month ago. It was finally time for Rory McIlroy to win his first green jacket and with the Masters win completed the career grand slam. The player that put the most pressure on McIlroy was Bryson DeChambeau. Last year in 2024 the tournament took place at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky. The winner was Xander Schauffele by one shot over guess who Bryson DeChambeau. At one time this was the final major of the year and when the schedule changed it was moved to the second major. This year the tournament is taking place at Quail Hallow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The tournament will start on the 15th and conclude on the 18th. There are 15 LIV players who are participating in the 2025 PGA Championship. The three biggest stars of the 16 are Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau. The trophy that the winner will take home on Sunday is the Wanamaker Trophy. The last time that Quail Hollow hosted a major championship was the 2017 PGA Championship that was won by Justin Thomas and then in 2022 it hosted the Presidents Cup which was won by team USA 17 ½ to 12 ½ over the international team. The golf course is a par 71 that measures 7,626 yards and has bermudagrass greens. What makes the golf course unique is a stretch of holes called “The Green Mile” these are three difficult holes that are holes 16-18.
Holes 16-18 are comprised of two mammoth par 4’s and 221-yard par three and on the final five holes water can play a factor. All three holes that make up the green mile all play over par. These three holes can play a huge factor on a player making the cut or winning it all on Sunday. The field will have 156 players that will include 29 major champions, 14 PGA champions, three World Golf Hall of Famer, and three Ryder Cup captains. The tour invites the top 100 in the official world golf ranking who are not already in the field. Some players that were not exempt include Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, David Puig, Tom McKibbin, and Rickie Fowler. No matter what, there will be some good players in the field. Will Rory McIlroy win his second straight major?
Coming into the start of the PGA Championship the favorite is Scottie Schaffler with right behind him is Rory McIlroy. The other players that are favorite to win are Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, and Justin Rose who lost in the playoff at the Masters is also up there to win. The golf course will challenge every player in the field just like in the Masters Jordan Spieth could also win the career grand slam. He has not won the PGA Championship in fact his last major win was the 2017 Open Championship. Let’s see how the tournament goes starting on Thursday.
