GREEN BAY- Bruce Feldman’s freaks list for the 2025 NFL Draft includes Maryland Defensive Tackle Jordan Phillips and TCU Wide Receiver Savion Williams. Every draft has a few “sleeper” NFL prospects that are gaining status but are lost among other top-tier prospects.
Phillips is capable of bench pressing 350 pounds. He completed squatting reps of over 665 pounds What can he do against an offensive lineman with strength like that? As the game film shows, he uses an unrelenting bull rush to stop running backs immediately before they can get several yards. His pass rush needs some work in terms of closing speed if a defensive coach wants to see him sack quarterbacks consistently.
However, due to a strong and intimidating presence on the defensive line, he is good enough to pressure any passer. Phillips plays similarly to Dalvin Tomlinson, Steelers legend Mean Joe Greene, and Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones. He’s the ultimate power defensive tackle. His stats aren’t glamorous, though, so he looks more like a backup defensive tackle right now, but he is great for depth. He is also the sort of intimidating run stopper and pass rusher the defensive coaches love to help develop into a starting defensive tackle with enough NFL experience. Don’t let the numbers paint an inaccurate picture. Phillips has lots of potential.
Williams is a bully of a receiver. He doesn’t have the best speed but his acceleration is very good. He looks like one of the strongest receivers in NFL draft history. He often has size mismatches against defenses which he expertly uses to his advantage. He has a great red zone presence and has the ability to bowl over defensive players like a running back. He also displays great versatility playing more like a running back with pass catching abilities on some plays.
He can also throw the ball on truck option plays. There are so many ways an offensive coordinator can get him involved in the game plan. Williams is a Jack of all trades. He was also a quarterback in high school, so NFL teams could explore the possibility of adding him as a quarterback rather than as a receiver.
With his ability to juke defenders with ease, he can also be a big time playmaker as a running back. That makes the job of aby offensive coordinator easy. He will give nightmares to defensive coordinators though. Williams can squat 600 pounds and bench press 350 pounds. That gives scouts and NFL experts an idea of what he will do to defensive players.
