Once again it looks like the USF Bulls played an uninspired game. This game was like the one that the Bulls played against the Navy Midshipmen. They had the opportunity to win seven games during the regular season. The Rice Owls were coming into the game with just three wins and they have struggled at times this year. The first half is where the Owls won the game. Going into the half they lead 27-7. USF’s defense looked outworked in the first half. E.J. Warner, son of Hall of Famer Kurt Warner, looked like his dad. Rice moved up and down the field and had no problem. Normally, the Bulls’ defense adjusts but they did not until the second half. We all know that Byrum Brown is back in uniform, but we have yet to see him back on the field. Bryce Archie has been good at times but struggled against the Owls.
The question is when is Bryum Brown coming back? Is it the bowl game or is he transferring? The USF Bulls became bowl-eligible with their win last week versus the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. The only thing that Rice did wrong was have more penalties. Other than that, they extended their drives and the scoreboard showed it. They held the Bulls’ offense to 28 points and kept them from tying the game. In the first half, they had them off their game and held them to seven points. Despite that, Rice will have a new coaching staff next year. They are hoping they can get more than four wins in 2025.
For the second year in a row, the USF Bulls finished with a .500 record. But things have been much better the last two seasons. They will once again play in a bowl game. The Bulls are waiting to see which bowl they will play in. There have been many mentioned like the Cure Bowl in Orlando, Florida, and the Boca Raton Bowl in Boca Raton, Florida where they played last year. The other two would be the Hawaii Bowl in Hawaii and the Gasparilla Bowl, in Tampa, Florida. They will have to play much better than they did in their last game. Many believe that head coach Alex Golesh will have his team ready to go for the next game no matter where the game will be played. If it is the Gasparilla Bowl, then it will be played at home, Raymond James Stadium.
Fans are all hoping that the injured USF Bulls players will be back by the bowl game, especially Bryum Brown. The offense has not looked the same since the Tulane game. One of the bright spots this season is once again Sean Atkins. Atkins surpassed 2,000 total yards for his USF career. USF’s rushing attack has been good in the last few games. This has helped them win some games in 2024. The Bulls have been good at getting over a loss very quickly. Let’s see which bowl game they will play in.
