MIAMI GARDENS – There were several last-minute miracles and epic finishes that were the highlights of NFL week eight. One such epic finish was when Arizona Kicker Chad Ryland nailed a 34-yard field goal as time expired. The Arizona Cardinals won against the Miami Dolphins 28-27.
Although that was the closest of three dramatic endings, it was far from the most difficult finish.
The most difficult finish of the three most epic endings was when Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels threw a 54-yard Hail Mary, game-winning touchdown to receiver Noah Brown as time expired. The odds of this finish were likely less than five percent. No one could’ve seen this coming, especially from the rookie quarterback. What made this ending even crazier was the fact that Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson taunted the Commanders fans during the play. He didn’t focus on what happened. He went on X to apologize for his actions.
Another epic finish was in Cleveland as the Browns came back to win against the Baltimore Ravens 29-24 in what was a must-win for the Browns. The Ravens tried to drive down the field for a game-winning touchdown but quarterback Lamar Jackson threw an incomplete pass as time expired. Jackson rolled out of the pocket but was unable to deliver the game-winning pass.
There were a total of ten NFL games decided by a touchdown or fewer points if we count the Monday Night Football game in which the Pittsburgh Steelers won against the New York Giants 26-18 (if we factor in a touchdown and a two-point conversion). Packers Kicker Brandon McManus kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired for a 30-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The finish in Foxboro, Massachusetts was also a thrilling finish as New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson ran for the game-deciding two-yard touchdown followed by a two-point conversion. The Patriots won 25-22.
Although this wasn’t as exciting a finish as the other NFL games, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield threw a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end Cade Otton with 6 minutes, 52 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, it was too late for the Buccaneers as NFC South rival Atlanta won 31-26. The San Francisco 49ers also won a close game against the Dallas Cowboys 30-24 and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 27-20.
