USF Bulls: A Big Win Over Southern Miss 49-24

Coming into the game versus the Southern Miss Eagles the USF Bulls came off another tough loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. It was the second year in a row the Bulls gave the Tide a fit but lost in the end. Coming into this week, this was a very winnable game. Many would call this a trap game as USF will host the Miami Hurricanes next week at home. The Hurricanes are undefeated.

Both Southern Miss and USF both had a 1-1 record coming into this one. This was the second road game and back-to-back road games for the Bulls. It is funny that USF had very few primetime games this year and their first four are in that category. This is how far the program has come. No more just a pushover as they have been in the past.

The game did not start ideally for the USF Bulls as they quickly found themselves down 14-0. By the end of the quarter, they had evened the game at 14. As they tied the score, the Eagles had their first turnover, a fumble. That fumble led to a Kelley Joiner 43-yard run. Southern Miss had a great start on offense but struggled after that. After a punt, the Bulls would have a sustainable drive that led to a passing touchdown from Byrum Brown. Josh Hardeman caught the touchdown reception. Right before the half, USF would get their fourth touchdown. This score came from the quarterback Bryum Brown, who had a one-yard run. Southern Miss got a touchdown to draw the game closer and make it 28-21 at the half.

As the second half started, it did not take the USF Bulls very long as they scored another touchdown on their next offensive possession. This would be a rushing touchdown by Ta Ron Keith. The ground game for USF was once again great. The Bulls had almost 400 yards on the ground totaling 369 yards. The big three with the most yards were Kelley Joiner with 117, Nay’Quan Wright with 105 yards, and Bryum Brown with 72 yards. This has been a big part of USF’s offense.

The Eagles did not score any points in the third quarter. That pretty much cost them the game besides the turnovers. The Bulls added 14 more points in the final quarter and with that, they won 49-24.

Once again the USF Bulls used their run game to keep the Southern Miss Eagles on their heels. The Bulls also took advantage of the three turnovers that Southern Miss committed. The Eagles had one interception and two fumbles.

One of the many positives is that USF’s passing game was better than last week. They had 192 yards and had 562 total yards for the game. They are going to have to make sure they are good on both sides of the ball. The Miami Hurricanes might be the best team in the state of Florida and they just blew out the Ball State Cardinals 62-0. The defense has been good in all three games and will be tested this upcoming Saturday. For the first time since the Alabama Crimson Tide game last year, all three levels will be open for the game.
