The USF Bulls football team is coming off their first winning season since 2018. They had six wins with the seventh win coming with a blowout 45-0 over the Syracuse Orange in the Boca Raton Bowl. The Bulls only won one game in 2022 with 11 losses. It was great to see how head coach Alex Golesh with a new system, new coaches, and a young quarterback do so well. Many had the Bulls only winning no more than four games in 2023. They prove them all wrong. The Bulls are in now what is called an offseason. That means it is time for coach Golesh to recruit and get players via the transfer portal. The idea would be the players that come in with the ones that are staying make a better 2024. Who knows, maybe a possible college football playoff appearance down the road?

One of the biggest players who committed to the USF Bulls was four-star tight end Jonathan Echols of the IMG Academy. He had offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Echols chose to stay closer to home as the IMG Academy is in the Sarasota-Bradenton area not far from the city of Tampa. While at the IMG Academy Echols had 22 receptions for 365 yards and five touchdowns. He is 6’6 and 225 pounds your proto-typical tight end. With him, the Bulls also hailed in 22 three-star signees and two more hard commitments. The recruiting class is ranked 48th in the nation it is ranked the best of the G5 schools. Not only did they do well recruiting they did well in the transfer portal. USF added four players from Power Five schools.

The one that stands out the most is the wide receiver from Perdue Abdur-Rahmann Yaseen. Yaseen was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He had a short 2023 only playing in only six games. He had 34 receptions, 456 yards, and one touchdown. Yaseen will fit well into a Bulls offense that had two records broken in 2023. The man that he will receive the football from will be Bryum Brown who had a great 2023 season. He used his arms and legs to keep opposing defenses on their toes. Brown stats from 2023 were 3,292 passing yards 26 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. Brown led the team in rushing with over 1,000 yards. He will get weapons back in running back Nay’Quann Wright who ran for 847 yards and eight touchdowns, and Sean Atkins who was a huge weapon with 92 receptions, 1,054 yards, and seven touchdowns.

The USF Bulls also made some minor changes to the coaching staff. They promoted Jack Taylor from Senior quality control analyst to tight ends coach. The Bulls also added a new cornerbacks coach in DeMarcus Van Dyke who left FIU to fill that role for USF. With all these new players, returning players, and new coaches the future looks bright. If the Bulls can go better than 4-4 in the conference, they could compete for the AAC Championship Game in 2024. USF has not had a 10-win season since 2017 but it could happen in 2024. It comes down to execution and no major injuries to players all the above could happen a conference championship and maybe a college football playoff appearance.
