Is This the End of the Bill Belichick Era?

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is still looking for his best head coach position. The Falcons head coach vacancy is no longer available and as of right now, there are only two vacancies left. The Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders have positions available. However, since the Seahawks no longer have Pete Carroll as Head Coach, it’s not really logical to hire Belichick to take his place.

Washington will likely go in another direction and not hire Belichick. After Six Super Bowl wins with Tom Brady at quarterback, it was an absolute disaster in New England. Three of the last four seasons went against New England and it’s possible that teams around the league no longer think Belichick can turn his career around.

However, a coach with an old-school football mindset should actually be highly sought after. In a league of more flash and glamorized passing, it’s easy to forget that having a balanced football team that has everything working from hard nose physical defense, a power running game that’s nearly impossible to stop, special teams kick returners who remind of us Devin Hester and of course a stellar passing game.

Critics will point to Belichick’s lack of success with recent drafts as a reason to avoid hiring him.

It seems as though the most heartbreaking future is in store for Belichick. Although he can simply take a year off and try again next year, it looks like this is unfortunately the end of Bellicheck’s NFL coaching career.

Is it possible that Belichick can take a step back and look for NCAA coaching vacancies in the meantime? It’s possible but Belichick would likely avoid that because of the simple fact that that’s a step down from what he did. He likely would never agree to that.

Could he instead join the broadcasting booth before waiting for something else to open up? He’d fit in perfectly with Bill Cowher. Terry Bradshaw, and others at CBS Sports. They’d likely hire him in a minute if they can make a position available. Who would dislike seeing Belichick give his pregame takes?

Even so, it just doesn’t feel right seeing this happen to him. In reality, there should be three head coaching positions available because Mike McCarthy is not looking like he’s a good guy as the Dallas Cowboys head coach. Now, normally you don’t fire a head coach after making the Playoffs. That’s a taboo in the NFL. You typically keep your head coach right where he is and tell him to build on a great year.

However, the Cowboys would benefit from Belichick’s way of doing things and they don’t need to worry about a rebuild. In fact, that’s a team that can still build through the draft in addition to already being an NFL powerhouse.

Perhaps there could be some unlikely changes in the next few months but it’s almost a guarantee that Bellicheck will not be coaching in the NFL next season. It’s unfair and he doesn’t deserve this at all.

Belichick still accomplished more than any other coach could even come close to. Six Super Bowl wins is a great accomplishment and he has nothing to regret if he hangs it up now. He accomplished more than he could dream of. He will remembered for that. The last four years will be an afterthought.

Regardless of what happens in the next few years, Belichick did more than anyone could ask. Some of the credit goes to him because he led the Patriots to those six Super Bowl wins. Tom Brady did not do it alone. He had great teams, great teammates, and a “chess master” as Head Coach.

If this is really the end of Bellichick’s career, then it was a great one with a lot of memories to treasure. This would be heartbreaking and would certainly make many fans cry tears of sadness never knowing what could have happened. However, there should also be a few years of joy because he did what no other coach could do.
