The Texas Southern Tigers took full advantage of its holiday break as they raced past the College of Biblical Studies 108-72 on Thursday evening inside the H&PE Arena.

Playing for the first time since Dec. 21, the Tigers needed a little time to figure out its opponent as the Ambassadors entered the arena as a first-year program. Tied 6-6 to open the contest, the Tigers wasted no time in setting the tone with a. 19-0 run which spanned five minutes as PJ Henry and Jonathan Cisse combined for 12 points while the team was nearly perfect from the field (8-of-9).

CBS would get within 12 on two occasions over the next few minutes as they put together a 16-9 run but the Tigers would prevent them from getting closer over the duration of the half as they doubled their scoring output en route to a 50-30 halftime lead.

The Tigers opened the second half on fire as Cisse and Jahmar Young, Jr. combined for nine points as the lead was extended to 61-35 after Cisse’s three-pointer. With the lead and game in tow, the Ambassadors attempted to turn up the defensive intensity with a full-court press but the Tigers had little trouble breaking the press as the half featured an assortment of highlight reel dunks and solid shooting from the outside en route to the win.

The Tigers surpassed the century mark for the first time since December of 2020 as the 108 points marked the most scored at TSU since a 108-point performance against ULM in the CIT Postseason Invitational in 2019.

Six players scored in double figures for the Tigers led by PJ Henry’s 16 points. Cisse added 13 followed by 12 from Deon Stroud, 11 from Grayson Carter, and 10 each from Young, Jr. and Jaylen Wysinger. Kolby Granger led the way on the boards with eight followed by five from Young, Jr.

TSU will have a week off with the start of SWAC play on the horizon as they’ll travel to Baton Rouge, La. on Saturday, Jan. 6 for a 5:30 p.m. showdown against Southern.
