EAST RUTHERFORD – The New York Jets are at a critical point in the history of the franchise. Although Quarterback Aaron Rodgers might return to the field soon, there is a long-term issue at Quarterback. Can the team continue with Zach Wilson after Rodgers retires? Is the team better off starting over with someone else? Rodgers might retire after his contract expires next year. He is in the first year of the two-year deal. Will the team draft Louisiana State Quarterback Jayden Daniels or Colorado’s Shaddeur Sanders?
Sanders brings big play excitement but Daniels might be the better option overall. Daniels is the Heisman Trophy frontrunner right now and has the necessary pass accuracy to succeed promptly at the next level. If the Jets want a Quarterback with a higher ceiling, then Sanders might be the better option.
Daniels comes across as the more NFL-ready quarterback and is more of a guarantee to start and succeed right away. Sanders comes from a football family, being the son of the great NFL Cornerback Deion Sanders. Will greatness follow the next generation?
Being the son of a legend doesn’t always make one great on the field. Sanders will have to forge his own path to NFL success but his dad taught him a lot already. He could easily tell his son what to look for when scanning the field. That knowledge will undoubtedly help him win at the next level.
If the Jets are unwilling to give Wilson a chance to develop, then the team shouldn’t waste time trying to do so. In fact, trading Wilson for draft pick compensation starts to become a reality.
So far, Wilson has 1,944 passing yards and six touchdowns. The alarming part is he has more interceptions thrown than touchdowns with seven picks thrown so far this season. He was inactive for week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Daniels passed for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns for LSU this season. Daniels excels in the pocket but can also use his escape ability with his quickness when necessary.
Sanders passed for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns. He looks like an improvising Quarterback similar to Russell Wilson or Lamar Jackson. Sanders’s numbers could be equal to Daniels’ numbers or perhaps better if he wasn’t sacked 26 times. The fact that Sanders was harassed in the pocket so often yet put up these numbers is a credit to his skills and the knowledge his dad gave him. Since Sanders was one of the best legendary Cornerbacks of all time, his son benefits from knowing his to properly read defenses and know exactly where to place his passes.
The Jets lost again 13-8 to the Atlanta Falcons and fell to 4-8 on the season.
