So, for a long time, the New England Patriots have been the cream of the crop in the NFL. The Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers are tied with the most Super Bowl titles with six apiece. Last year was a mess at times. For some off-the-wall reason head coach Bill Belichick made Matt Patricia and Joe Judge co-offensive coordinators. Neither one of them has ever coached offense. The defense was the bright spot last year. Their record was 8-9, one game under .500. The AFC East power has shifted and now the top team is the Buffalo Bills. Coming into this year the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets have gotten better. Many have said that Coach Belichick could be on the hot seat. Has the game passed him by? He will go down as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
This year, Belichick has brought in former head coach Bill O’Brien. O’Brien once coached the Houston Texans. Many New England Patriots fans like Mac Jones as their quarterback. Bailey Zappe is the backup and shined at times last year. This will be Mac Jones’s third year so there is pressure on him. Many of us must remember that he is filling the shoes of the GOAT, Tom Brady. I am unsure why many judge Jones from last year when he did not have a proper coordinator. Also, the Patriots have had very few weapons for Jones to throw the ball to. This year they have added DeVante Parker and JuJu Smith-Schuster. The media said that New England may only carry five wide receivers on the 53-man roster. Rhamondre Stevenson and a supporting cast will head the running game.
I think the offense will be 10 times better under O’Brien than last season. The defense, like it was last year, might be big for the New England Patriots. They have Matthew Judon and Trey Flowers. These two will be many of the big stars that they will lean on. When it comes to the division, they will have their hands full with all three teams. If the offense struggles, then it will come down to this unit to get wins. The offensive line could be a big issue.
No matter who you have as the quarterback it will be hard to win games if your quarterback struggles. Ask Tom Brady what that was like in his final season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We are all interested to see how this team will do this year.
The AFC East could be about the same as it was last year. Many have predicted that the New England Patriots are in the basement of the division. All the other three teams have gotten better. Many are wondering that if the Patriots struggle this season, it could be the last for Bill Belichick? We will have to wait and see. I think this team will have a similar record from a year ago. The offense will be better if the offensive line can be fixed. The defense will play a big factor this year. I do not believe that this will be Belichick’s last year. But I have been wrong with coaches in the past. Will the New England Patriots be a surprise team in 2023?
How do you think the New England Patriots will do this season?
