Trump: The Power One Man Can Hold Over Millions

The lure of power is one of the things a human mind will probably never overcome. To have the ability to command many, to feel that your position puts you above all others has got to be one of the most incredible feelings a human can have. The problem is all the issues that can come from that belief. Just ask Donald J. Trump.

In October of 1973, the Justice Department filed a civil rights case against Fred Trump, Donald Trump, and their real estate company. They were accused of violating the Fair Housing Act of 1968 by discriminating against people of color. Black and white “testers” went to some of their apartment complexes to rent an apartment. The white testers were told of any vacancies while the black “testers” were told there were no vacancies. They took it a step further by allegedly indicating colored renters by putting the letter “C” on top of the application they filled out. The Trumps countered by suing the government for $100 million for defamation. After two years, the case was settled with no admission of guilt by the Trumps.

Since that incident, Donald Trump and his businesses have been involved in over 4,000 legal cases in federal or state courts. The variety spans all kinds of matters including cases involving his casinos, defamation lawsuits, real estate, and many tax cases. Being taken to court has been a way of life for a man that has always seen himself as above the law. And how can you blame him for feeling that way?

Just as he became President, he agreed to pay $25 million to settle allegations of fraud involving his Trump University scam.

In 2022, the Trump Organization was charged and convicted of 17 criminal charges. This stemmed from a 15-year tax fraud scheme and falsifying business records that the law said was basically done out of greed. The organization was fined $1.6 million for its actions.

In March of 2023, Trump saw himself once again in a most familiar place, the court of law. He was indicted on 34 felony counts by a grand jury in Manhattan. As one would expect, he pleaded not guilty to all charges. The indictment charged him with trying to bury allegations of extramarital affairs during his first run for the White House. The charges state that Trump falsified business records while trying to cover up an effort to silence these claims that could have hurt his chances to win the 2016 election.

In May of 2023, Trump was found liable for sexual abuse, not rape, and defamation against E. Jean Carroll for an incident that happened three decades earlier. Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in damages.

Then came one of the saddest days in American history, June 8th, 2023. Trump was indicted on federal charges related to his handling of classified documents. It would be a 37-count indictment that sets the stage for an unprecedented case in American history. The indictment, when unsealed, showed that Trump supposedly stored classified documents related to defense and weapons capabilities. It also showed he had documents on US nuclear programs and potential vulnerabilities to a military attack on the US and its allies.

He has been accused of sharing some of these classified documents with people that have no security clearance to view such documents. It accuses him of storing boxes of these documents in places like a ballroom, a bathroom, and a shower. In an office space, his bedroom, and a storage room.

The accusations included how the documents were moved as well as willfully withholding these documents and lying about them. But that is not the saddest thing of all. No, what this man is being accused of pales in comparison to the control he has over millions.

As the indictment made its rounds across the world, Trump loyalists are defending him at all costs. Interviews from Palm Beach and the Mar-a-Lago area show supporters saying that the pictures and allegations are all made up. That he has done nothing wrong and this is just the weaponization of the justice department against a political opponent.

Politicians are walking a tightrope calling this an injustice while not directly defending Trump. His opponents and those on Capitol Hill are eerily silent. We are not hearing what we heard from representative Don Bacon from Nebraska when he said he was shocked and called this inexcusable. Senator Cynthia Lummis said she has serious concerns over the handling of the documents but added that she has questions about Jack Smith’s motivations.

One thing that has been proven over the course of the last seven decades. Trump supporters are mesmerized by him. He has this ability to put them into some kind of trance and once in that trance, they will believe anything he tells them. They will do almost anything he asks them to do. Just reference January 6th to see how far people are willing to go for him.

Social media will show his followers referencing Joe Biden and the debunked claims about Burisma, or asking what about Hunter? They are commenting about Biden taking bribe money and a host of crimes nobody can seem to prove.

The House Oversight Committee, led by James Comer, has threatened FBI director Christopher Wray with contempt of Congress if he does not turn over an FD-1023 document that alleges the Biden bribery scheme involving a foreign national. A form that is used by the FBI to record unverified reports by a confidential human source. None of the allegations on this form have been validated or verified.

Make no mistake. Any politician or American citizen that commits a crime should have to pay the price for said crime. It should not matter who they are or what position they have held or currently hold. If this indictment was for one of us, we would already be under a jail cell.

As for Trump, he has led a life where he always believed he was above the law. Where he thinks that no matter what he does, there is no price to pay because of who he is. If you listen to his brazen words regarding these cases, it is as if he was daring to be prosecuted and convicted. Well, as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

This is not the end of the road for Trump. He has been charged in Florida but there is still good chance charges can still come out of Washington. Then, there is the case in Georgia in his attempt to change the outcome of the election in that state. Behind that, we got the Jan. 6th charges that will eventually fall in place. In all, these cases and trials could take place over the next four to six years one would imagine.

In the meantime, Trump’s power over his base continues to grow. He told us before he was President that he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and he still wouldn’t lose a vote. This has proven to be a statement of fact. His 30% base will not desert him no matter what crimes he may have committed or will be convicted of committing in future cases. They will defend him to the end and will do what he does best, blame others for what he has done to himself.

Make no mistake that all of this Trump is facing is self-inflicted. He could have easily told NARA he made a mistake and that he would return all documents they were asking for. Had he taken this route, we would not be where we are today.

No matter what happens next one thing is certain. Donald Trump has built a base, a cult following that will stand by him no matter the damage he may have caused or will cause.

The one question that has not been asked enough is WHY? Why did he keep these documents? What was the end game here? It is a question we may never get an answer to.
