The second period started with the Friars hitting the post. Cody Monds came down the left side, beat his man, and put one off the short side post on the ice. The River Hawks went on the power play for the first time at the four-minute mark of the second as Parker Ford went off for Providence College for boarding. The Friars had UMass Lowell scrambling in their own zone testing Grigals a couple of times. A late period penalty on the Friars for faceoff violation gave the River Hawks a power play at 18:33. Lowell did nothing with it and :33 seconds of it would carry over to the third.
