Wow! That is the emotion that many USF Bulls fans have used this year. The team has shown very little when it comes to improvement. Coming off a game where they were dominated by the Houston Cougars many have penciled them to never win again. This past week they were favored to beat the Temple Owls. The Owls have only had two wins coming into this game. The Bulls. just like every game. show signs that they can win. A team that is not built to come from behind. The signs came up yesterday again. The Bulls turned the ball over three times, with one interception and two fumbles. This is the difference between winning and losing games. This a game that USF had the chance to win. Since they defeated the Owls last year, it would have been back-to-back wins against Temple.
The Bulls did have a good offensive day but were unable to stop the Owls on offense. USF had 471 total yards, which would lead to a win in many games. But when you allow 621 yards you can see why the USF Bulls lost the game. The Bulls also won the time of possession. Katravis Marsh had a decent day going 11-22 for 176 yards three touchdowns and one interception. The biggest play for the Bulls was a 62-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Weaver. It was a close game going into the half. At that time, it was 16-14. Many thought they would go in down by nine points, but they got a late touchdown to pull within two points. But that is where it all stopped as far as positivity. The Bulls were outscored 38-14 in the second half.
I think the biggest issue I have seen is that the USF Bulls have their defense get tired and they also can not convert on third downs. This means they are not holding the ball long enough for their defense to get a rest. They are also not causing turnovers which do not help the cause. If this team is going to get better, they are going to have to get better in these areas. Many will say they did not see improvement in this team, but you can see they are on the verge. We will have to see how much longer a team psyche can go losing as many games as this team has lost. When they put forth the effort and it is not turning into positive play or wins when will the team just give up? Or have they already given up? Then, the news came that head coach Jeff Scott has been let go. A casualty of his own inability to get this team to improve in these phases of the game.
Next week they will be back at home against the SMU Mustangs. It will be hard to think that this USF Bulls team will beat the Mustangs. SMU is a good team they have a 5-4 record and if they beat the USF, they will be bowl eligible. I think it will help the Bulls being back at home they have two home games and one road game left. Many will say they will not win a game, but they might have a chance to beat the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes on the 19th the last road game in 2022. What the fans will be looking for in the final three is improvement so they can hope for a better season in 2023. I hate writing and seeing about the USF Bulls losing game after game.
