Are you a degenerate gambler? Perhaps you’re someone who picks games against the spread just for fun and to see how smart you really aren’t? If this describes you, or if you just like to be entertained by a crazy sports columnist, you’re in luck, because you’ve stumbled across Against All Odds: NCAA and NFL Picks, a weekly post from the start of the football season, all the way to the Super Bowl, where me, Mike Drakulich (PSN), the man behind Pittsburgh SportsNation, takes on my father, Michael J. Drakulich (MJD), in picking NCAA and NFL games against the Vegas line! Check out the Draftkings welcome offer to see how you can win big and find many bonuses.

I cover both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt Panthers during the season for the fabulous NGSCSports.com!

Normally, we always include the local teams here in Western Pennsylvania, which are Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, and the Pittsburgh Steelers among our weekly picks. This gives me the chance to take shots at the opposing teams I really dislike, enraging certain readers, and adding delight to my busy weekends.

All in all, both my dad and I are pretty good at picking these games, but don’t take our word for it. You’re on your own when you place your bets, so don’t blame us if you lose… but you can share your winnings with us if you wish.

Itchy vs Scratchy. Pepsi vs Coke. Black Spy vs White Spy. Cheers vs Gary’s Old Towne Tavern. History is full of rivalries, but none are better than father vs son! Who will rise above the other this season and become the 2022-23 Against All Odds Champion?

It was a pretty good two days for both myself and my dad last week. I ended up with my best record yet at 7-3, and dad went 6-4.

For the year, I am now just two games below .500, and aim to blow past that mark this entry into the season.

Week 8

Against All Odds Lines as of 10/20/2022

NCAA

Saturday, October 22nd

West Virginia (3-3) at Texas Tech (3-3)

Game Time: 3:30 PM at Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX.

Vegas Line: Texas Tech -6.5

The Pick: PSN: Texas Tech | MJD: Texas Tech

WVU found a way to win last week, but have a tough road test down in Texas. Just gonna be a quiet night drinking Busch beer in Morgantown this Saturday night.

#20 Texas (5-2) at #11 Oklahoma State (5-1)

Game Time: 3:30 PM at Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK.

Vegas Line: Texas -6.5

The Pick: PSN: Oklahoma State | MJD: Oklahoma State

Not sure why Texas is this big of a favorite as the visiting team, but I’m not buying in. The Cowboys rise up at home vs the Longhorns.

#7 Ole Miss (7-0) at LSU (5-2)

Game Time: 3:30 PM at Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA.

Vegas Line: LSU -3.5

The Pick: PSN: Ole Miss | MJD: Ole Miss

I get LSU is a tough place to play, but Ole Miss, the #7 team in the nation, will come away with a had earned road win.

Minnesota (4-2) at #16 Penn State (5-1)

Game Time: 7:30 PM at Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA.

Vegas Line: Penn State -3.5

The Pick: PSN: Penn State | MJD: Penn State

Not too sure about this pick with the QB situation in Happy Valley, but somehow the Nittany Lions should be good enough to defeat a Minnesota team in freefall.

Pitt (4-2) at Louisville (3-3)

Game Time: 8:00 PM at Cardinal stadium, Louisville, KY.

Vegas Line: Louisville -2.5

The Pick: PSN: Pitt | MJD: Pitt

Pitt gets a big gut check on the road in Louisville. With Georgia Tech losing Thursday night, Pitt once again controls their destiny to go to the ACC Championship Game.

NFL

Sunday, October 23rd

Detroit (1-4) at Dallas (4-2)

Game Time: 1:00 PM at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX.

Vegas Line: Dallas -6.5

The Pick: PSN: Dallas | MJD: Dallas

Dallas gets Dak Prescott back and should roll at home vs the Lions.

Indianapolis (3-2-1) at Tennessee (3-2)

Game Time: 1:00 PM at Nissan Stadium, Nashville, TN.

Vegas Line: Tennessee -2.5

The Pick: PSN: Tennessee | MJD: Tennessee

I see a big game from Derrick Henry, and the Titans will take the cover at home.

Green Bay (3-3) at Washington (2-4)

Game Time: 1:00 PM at FedEx Field, Landover, MD.

Vegas Line: Green Bay -4.5

The Pick: PSN: Green Bay | MJD: Green Bay

Green Bay hasn’t lived up to expectations this year, but a trip to D.C. should help.

Cleveland (2-4) at Baltimore (3-3)

Game Time: 1:00 PM at M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, MD.

Vegas Line: Baltimore -6.5

The Pick: PSN: Baltimore | MJD: Cleveland

Both teams are playing below average football, and it wouldn’t surprise me me if Cleveland made the cover, but my gut says Ravens by a touchdown.

Pittsburgh (2-4) at Miami (3-3)

Game Time: 8:20 PM at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL.

Vegas Line: Miami -7.5

The Pick: PSN: Pittsburgh | MJD: Pittsburgh

The Steelers bounced back from death last week to shock Tom Brady and Tampa. Now the team has a chance to grab some momentum vs a Dolphins team that has lost three straight games. If Pittsburgh’s defense gets to Tua, they will win this game outright.
