Texas Southern University Football Adds 6 During Early Signing Period

Texas Southern head football coach Clarence McKinney added six student-athletes to its 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday during the first day of the early signing period.

With the foundation in place after playing the 2021 season with a total of 58 freshmen and sophomores, the Tigers went for immediate needs. Four of the six signees are projected to play defense while the team also added a quarterback and a long snapper as three states are represented in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi.

The Texas Southern Tigers will continue to add student-athletes in anticipation of the February signing period in 2022.

Currently still playing after leading his team to the Class 4A Division I State Championship Game as the first Austin ISD school to play a for a state title since 1973…named the Friday Football Player of the Week by FOX 7 after compiling 300 yards of total offense in September of 2021…scored seven touchdowns in playoff contest against Boerne…earned honorable mention all-district honors in 2020 after passing for more than 1,000 yards as a junior…led team to the 2021 Region Class 4A State Semifinals in 2020.

Played multiple positions in high school on both sides of the ball…projects as a safety in college…named to the Detroit Free Press All-Detroit high school football team 2nd team after the 2021 season…earned honorable all-mention all-state honors this past season…finished the year with 50-plus tackles, five pass breakups on defense while recording five touchdowns and catching 35 receptions.

Spent his postgrad year at St. Thomas More in Connecticut…played high school football at Cornerstone Christian in San Antonio, Texas…earned Whataburger Super Team Honors…received San Antonio All-VYPE Small School Team honors…also ran track in high school.

Completed a post-graduate year at Myrtle Beach Collegiate Post-Grad Academy…helped lead the team to an 8-2 mark and made history as a part of the first postgrad program to defeat a nationally ranked junior college team…played high school football at Kempner High School in Sugar Land, Texas…earned District 10-5A First Team honors as a senior after finishing the season with 55 tackles, two sacks, and an interception.
