There are several outstanding cornerbacks that should have their names called in the first round and early second round. One of those lockdown secondary players happens to be none other than Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II. If that name sounds familiar for other reasons than the Crimson Tide winning the National Championship, it’s because he’s the son of pro bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain. Is there a chance for a second generation of greatness? Join us as we take another look at our 2021 NFL Draft Profile.

Surtain II fits the description of a lockdown corner. The 6′ 2 ” lockdown defender shows great awareness and will be the corner that every NFL starting quarterback needs to be careful to avoid testing. His tight man coverage skills will make any receiver earn his catches. He just keeps up with receivers and makes it difficult to run deep pass routes against him. His height also presents a challenge to opposing offenses as 6’2″ corners are rare to find. This lockdown defender with speed, man coverage abilities, and height make him the obvious number one choice for a team that needs a cornerback early. Although some rankings favor Virginia Tech’s Caleb Farley, it’s not a good idea to pass up the chance to select the second generation of greatness in the Surtain family. With the ideal height, quickness, speed, and long arms, he can be a great fit in any NFL defense. The team that selects him will give the cornerback with the most upside.

Can Surtain II follow in his dad’s footsteps and be a pro-bowl corner? There seems to be a good chance he will be in multiple pro bowls and possibly make the pro-bowl roster in his rookie year because he’s just that good. He will need to improve coverage against receivers in the slot as well as pass catchers running short and intermediate routes. It’s likely that Surtain II will become an all-around corner in time. He just needs excellent coaching, practice, and experience. He needs a little time to become a polished corner but the potential is there.

The NFL Draft is a tricky thing when it comes to predictions and odds making. Oddsmakers look forward to this time of year when many bets are being placed on the top legal sports betting sites in NJ and other states where sports betting is legal. So many bets being made on who will be number one, who will be a bust, and who will the sleepers be in every draft.

Prediction: The Miami Dolphins will look to add a lockdown corner to have a top duo in the secondary. Surtain II will team up with Byron Jones and give the Dolphins an edge on defense. The Dolphins have picks three and 18 but may select Surtain II at number three to avoid missing the chance to draft him. Teaming up with Jones would benefit Surtain II by having an elite corner to teach him a lot of things he’ll need to know. A Jones and Surtain II duo would be great for the Dolphins.
