ACC Basketball News & Notes
For most schools, November 6 was the earliest start date for college basketball. However, roundball is back and the Atlantic Coast Conference is ready and loaded for 2018-19.
An ACC record seven teams are ranked in the Preseason Top 25. Three of them are in the top 10. Duke at #4, Virginia at #5, and North Carolina at #8. The USA Today Coaches Ranking has Duke at #3, Virginia at #5, and North Carolina at #7.
With a team that is highly regarded as being one of the best teams in the land, the Duke Blue Devils got their season off to a bang this past Tuesday night. They took part in the State Farms Champion Classic and the Blue Devils drew Kentucky. They went on to show everyone in attendance why they may be cutting down nets this spring. They absolutely manhandled the Wildcats as Zion Williamson was the monster he was expected to be.

To know one’s surprise, Duke is the preseason favorite in the conference. They received 52 of 121 first-place votes. The Blue Devils also boast the preseason freshman of the year in RJ Barrett.
The preseason player of the year is North Carolina’s Luke Maye. The senior was also placed on the preseason All-ACC first team. Maye leads all current players in the conference with 18 career double-doubles.
Another member of the first team, is Syracuse’s’ Tyus Battle. He leads all current players in the league with 1,097 career points. The good news for the Orangemen is looking for scorers as they try to make their way up the league standings.

The Boston College Eagles got things started at home on Tuesday night with the win over Milwaukee. It gave BC their 11 straight non-conference win at home. The streak dates back to December 23, 2016.
For most of the ACC teams, pre-season tournaments are on the way. It will be an early glimpse at how these teams look before the league schedule begins.
