Spinners pitcher named NYPL pitcher of the week
Lowell Spinners ace Eduard Bazardo, was named the NYPL pitcher of the week this past Monday. His complete game performance on July 18 versus the Aberdeen Ironbirds is what won him the award. In that game, which was a seven-inning affair because of a rainout the night before, Bazardo went the route giving up one run while punching out nine Ironbird hitters.
Bazardo has had a terrific season thus far for the Spinners in seven starts for Lowell. He has a record of 4-2 with an ERA of 2.08. His four wins tie him for the lead, as does the one complete game. Bazardo also is the best in WHIP at 0.76 and has the Lowest BB-IBB/9IP- ratio at 0.92. (four in 39 innings).
It does not stop there for the Spinners right-hander. He is third in strikeouts with 46 and has a batting average against of .174, which is fifth best in the league. His strikeout numbers have him third in Highest SO/9 IP ratio (10.62).
It is not often that a Spinners hurler get such an honor. In fact, before Bazardo was named pitcher of the week by the league you have to go back to 2016 when Danny Zandona took home the award. Its also the last time that the Lowell Spinners made the Penn league playoffs. Is this an omen? We will have to wait and see.
In the meantime, there is no question who the ace of this staff is. Let’s hope his second half of season will be as good as the first half was.
