Senior guard Matt Farrell put on a show and he did so in a hostile environment. Farrell went for a season-high 37 points on 12-for-17 shooting, including 10 of 12 from behind the arc, to help the Irish get a much-needed road win 84-67 over BC.
After the game, Farrell said he was “trying to be aggressive”. He got great screens from his teammates, and it felt good leaving his hands. The results would back those statements up.
Afterward, BC head coach Jim Christian said “some of it was bad defense”, “some of it was great offense”. Either way, on this day, Farrell would not be stopped.
In the first half, two gunslingers went toe to toe. Farrell and Jerome Robinson of BC. Robinson had 29 points on 11-for-15shooting, including 5 of 8 from deep and 2-for-2 from the line.
Trying to match Farrell shot for shot in the first half, Farrell would end up the clear winner. He went 9 of 11, 8-for-8 behind the line. The Eagles tried three different defenses, and several people to guard him. It did not matter as he was knocking down shots from everywhere.
The Irish jumped out to a 24-7 lead at the 12:05 mark, A Farrell three push the lead to twenty at 39-19 with six minutes until halftime.
When T.J. Gibbs (15 points) hit a layup with 17 seconds left, the Irish went to the break up 16 at 46-30.

The stat of the first half, when Farrell did not shoot the ball, was the rest of the teammates going 9 of 16. When Robinson did not take a shot for the Eagles, his teammates were 5-for-23.
The second half started with ND going on a 7-0 run. Farrell and Gibbs, who both played the entire game, led the way. When Farrell hit a three the Irish had their biggest lead of the day at 26, 56-30.
The Eagles cut it to twelve, thanks to a 12-0 spurt of their own. Robinson had four of those points and Nic Popovic, who finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, had five in the run. With 10:38 left in the game, it was now 63-51 Irish.
BC made one more stab at stealing this game with a 9-3 spurt to cut it to under ten at 73-64 ND with 4:18 to play. Robinson had five, with a layup and a three-ball. The Eagles were within striking distance. But Farrell, as he had done all game long, took care of any hopes of a comeback on this Saturday afternoon.
An 11-1 finishing outburst, with Farrell scoring seven of those points, sent the sold-out crowd to the exits at Conte Forum.
The final score was ND 84 BC 67.
